MYRTLE M. ANDERSON (nee CHATTERSON) February 1, 1919 - February 1, 2016 Myrtle left us on her birthday and we all feel it was her choice since she loved birthdays and knew her family would always be there to be with her. And we were! Being able to say goodbye barely eases our profound grief from the loss of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother, known to all simply as Nana'. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Ethel Chatterson, her infant brother Ronald, her mother's sister, Maude (Lyle) Wallace, a cousin Joyce, her first husband Cleveland Grant, her second husband Gordon Anderson, and her son-in-law Bryan Hunt. She was also tragically predeceased by Taylor, her great-grandson (age six). Myrtle leaves to mourn her two daughters, Bonnie (Gerald) and Dorene (Dick), grandchildren, Karen (John), Debbie (Joel), Kathryn (Bruce), Lori (Tim), Grant (Kerry), Bryan (Veronica), Leanne (Rorie), and Alexis (Dan), 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Nana was born and raised in St. James, Winnipeg and attended Linwood, General Wolfe, Gordon Bell Schools and Manitoba Commercial College. She excelled in everything she undertook in school and sports. Following in her father's footsteps, she especially excelled in track and field and baseball, playing for the St. James Canuck's while in high school. After college, Myrtle worked for the Provincial Government in Child Welfare. Later when Medicare was established, her knowledge and agility made her an invaluable resource to the department; Miss Busy-Fingers' as she was often referred to. Myrtle made many close friends there and kept in touch with them all her life. They were a great support while her first husband Cleveland was deployed overseas, leaving her to raise their two girls on her own. This showed her to be the very strong and resourceful woman she was. Later, in 1953, her husband's military service, took them back to Germany for two years and this was a source of untold stories and laughter she loved to share with her family and friends. Upon their retirement, Myrtle and Cleveland moved to Clearwater, Florida and lived happily there, enjoying many visits from their entire family until the death of her husband at age 80. Myrtle continued to reside alone in Florida and it was not long until she met her future second husband, Gordon Anderson, a snowbird' from Ontario. Not long after they married, they moved back to Canada in 2002, residing in Lundar, MB. Nana quickly gained notoriety around town as either the Hat Lady' from her participation in the Dance-a-thon or as Darlin' - how she addressed anyone she met and an old habit she brought home from Florida. After Gordon passed in 2011, Myrtle moved briefly back to Winnipeg residing in St. James where she always felt was home. Finally, in 2013, she moved back to Lundar to live in the Personal Care Home. Nana will always be remembered for her ever happy spirit, positive outlook and friendly personality that she shared with all. She embraced life with a passion, compassion and a true love for people and all God's creatures. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016 in the Lundar Lutheran Church with Pastor Terry Throndson officiating. The family gratefully acknowledges the assistance and care she received from Dr. Burnet, her family physician and all the staff at home care and Lundar Personal Care Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your choice of Lundar Personal Care Home Guild, c/o Judy Gleich, PO Box 60, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0, or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
