YVONNE BRUCE (nee BUORS) December 16, 1951 - February 7, 2016 It is with incredible sadness that we announce the recent passing of Yvonne, 64 years of age, after she succumbed to illness at the Health Sciences Center. She fought with calm dignity, revealing unimaginable reservoirs of strength that kept us hopeful for so long. Yvonne is survived by daughters, Kim (Bobbie) and Kelly (Dwain); grandson, Laine; granddaughter, Camryn; mother, Therese; all of her brothers; sisters and their families along with her mother-in-law, Marcelline; brothers and sisters-in-law and their families. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Douglas; father, Julien; father-in-law, Frank; brother-in-law, Gerry; nephew, Shane and great niece Oryanna. Mom is most remembered for her sharp sense of humour and extremely quick wit. The measured thoughtfulness that she employed in everything - especially matters of the heart, revealed her tremendous intelligence, her fierce love and unparalleled generosity. Mom loved all things Anne of Green Gables, had a great passion for music, loved her adventurous tours with Laine, loved the reflection of Camryn as her "mini-me" and never met a crossword she couldn't finish but truly, no words could adequately sum up the magnitude of her exquisite character. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated this morning, Friday, February 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 315 - 2nd Street East, Stonewall, Manitoba. A special thank-you to Dr. Eric Jacobsen for doing all he could for Mom. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Yvonne's name be made to the Health Sciences Center Foundation. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Yvonne also worked with me when I was Warden of Stony Mountain and helped me as she helped many others. I agree with Mr. Majkut's comments and will remember her as a very loyal and trusted peer. Blessings and prayers for her family. - Posted by: Dan Erickson (Colleague) on: Feb 15, 2016

  • I was the Warden at Stony Mountain Institution when I chose Yvonne to be my secretary. Yvonne was very dedicated to her job and protective of her boss. She was able to bring some humour to tense situations and determine when and how to handle challenge from media, inmates and others who chose to be difficult. She kept me in hand always wanting to know where I was going, for how long, and when I should be disturbed. It is close to twenty years since I last saw Yvonne but she has been remembered on many occasions with other retired colleagues who frequently tease at how protective she was. All tease how they had to get through Yvonne before they could get to the Warden. She will be fondly remembered. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Art Majkut (friend and colleague) on: Feb 13, 2016

  • Rae worked with Yvonne for many many years at SMI. She was a remarkable lady and always commented to me her love for everything Scotland. She was a very gracious lady and always conducted herself as such. She will be sadly missed by all. She is one of God's angels. - Posted by: rae and milton jones (friend) on: Feb 12, 2016
