GEORGE MATTHEW COURCHENE Waube Benasi Innini Morning Eagle Ogaabii Innini Forever Man Awaasanshzet Light That Shines Wahsa It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend and elder George Matthew Courchene on the morning of February 13, 2016. George is reuniting in the Spirit World with his wife Juliana; his granddaughter Sunshine; his great-grandson Anima Kii aashay; his parents Louis and Nancy Courchene; his siblings, Esther (JBD), Elsie (Kenneth), Josephine (Albert), Beatrice (Louie) and infant siblings; his In-laws, JB and Annie Morrisseau, Joseph, Joanne, Caroline and Helena. He leaves to continue his teachings, his sons, Eric (Sharon), Charles (Crystal) and Perry; his daughters, Lynn and Beverly "Cookie"; his grandchildren, Timothy, Blair (Joelle), Matthew, Summer, Candace, Zaagaate, Enigoose, Meengwan, Neebin (Brett), Noodin, Darren and Trevor (Bernice); his great-grandchildren, Storm, Braydon, Rheagon, Shaylyn, Ahmia, Rain, Phoenix, Ivory, Sasaabwe, Shawonay, Hazel, Kanina, Kayleelah, Kyle, Conner and Logan; his sister Ruth (Bob); his brother Marcel (Audrey); sisters-in-law Diane and Rita; his cultural brothers and sisters and the Anishinabe Community. George was a Spiritual Leader, Healer, Teacher and Elder. He served his community as one of the Elders in child welfare, health and wellness, and in the Anishinabe Cultural Way of Life. Traditional Anishinabe Funeral Ceremony is being held at the Sagkeeng Mino Pimatiziwin Family Treatment Centre, Sagkeeng First Nation, Manitoba, Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family c/o Spirit Road Funeral Services Inc., P.O.
