Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALDINE ANN HAMILTON June 15, 1937 - February 13, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Geraldine Ann Hamilton; loving wife, devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Gerry died peacefully at the Grace Hospital with family by her side. Gerry will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Ian, daughters Kathy, Sally (Bruce) and Penny (Bob), her stepchildren Anne (Chris), David and Stephen (Barbara), her sister Penny (Sam), cousin Frances (Everett), grandchildren Sarah, Amy (Joe), Erik (Katy), Ali, Beth (Alistair), Kate (Liam), Josh, Jamie, Lucas, Robyn, niece Katrina (Henning), nephew Chris and great-grandchildren Ava, Josie and Sarah and many other relatives and friends. Geraldine was born and lived her early life in Toronto with younger sister Penny and parents George and Geraldine Windeatt. It was during her childhood that she developed her artistic talent, love of nature, life long love of reading, gardening and pets. During her first marriage to Brian Gilbertson, an Anglican Priest, (1956 1971) Gerry and her young family lived in Saskatoon, Gimli, Pinawa, Winnipeg, Frobisher Bay (Iqualuit) and Toronto. Gerry met Ian Hamilton through mutual friends whom she married in 1977. Ian was Faculty Member of the Department of Oral Biology at the U of M and so they made their home in Winnipeg. With the joining of Gerry and Ian's families, Gerry became the matriarch and glue of the families. With her artistic talent and sense of elegance, she created beauty in all that she did, whether it was the food she prepared, her artwork, garden or home. Gerry was an active woman who enjoyed sit and fit, yoga and walks in the Assiniboine Forest, often with her husband and beloved dogs Daisy and Barney. A person with an active and enquiring mind, Gerry returned to school as an mature student completing her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Manitoba in 1990. Gerry was a gifted artist and her family and friends have been the grateful recipients of her work over the years. She was a member of the Forum Art Institute, Medea Art Gallery and most recently enjoyed her Tuesday painting group at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Gerry was a regular subscriber to the Winnipeg Symphony, Manitoba Opera and the Winnipeg Chamber Orchestra. A thoughtful and insightful woman with a sharp intellect, Gerry was always interested in new ideas, current events and good conversation. It would not be uncommon to see Gerry puttering around the house with phone in her hand chatting to her family in Ontario and sharing the happenings of their lives. Gerry's love for her family, most particularly her daughters was at the core of who she was. Gerry and Ian had a well matched partnership which included a shared love of nature, music, good food, travel and literature. After Ian's retirement from the University of Manitoba, they took the opportunity to travel often in the company of her sister Penny and brother-in-law Sam. There were trips to Europe, China, United Kingdom, Caribbean and the United States. Gerry's family would like to thank the many health care professionals who helped during her struggle with pancreatic cancer, most particularly, her GP Dr. Elin Bergman, the 3rd floor nurses and doctors at the Grace Hospital and Dr. Daeninck and Melanie from Cancer Care at the St. Boniface Hospital. A celebration of Gerry's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg. Gerry will be missed by many people. My condolences to the family and especially to my mentor Dr. Ian Hamilton. All of the people in Oral Biology that met Gerry loved her. She was always smiling and made sure that Dr. H. was always a happy man. It was always appreciated that the boss was in a good mood! Thanks Gerry. - Posted by: Dennis G Cvitkovitch (Graduate Student of Dr. Ian Hamilton 1986-1995) on: Feb 21, 2016

I did not know Gerry personally, though I feel as if I have met her. Katrina and Henning and Penny and Sam shared a lot of wonderful stories about her over the years. I especially know how much they loved her. I also have seen many of Gerry's paintings which occupy special places in Katrina and Henning's home in North Bay. My thoughts and condolences go to the entire family at this difficult time. - Posted by: Hilary Earl (Friend of Gerry's niece - Katrina. ) on: Feb 17, 2016

Through my decades of friendship with Penny, Gerry's sister, I came to know Gerryanne and her daughters and Ian. We shared travels, first to China and then a river cruise(Danube) from Vienna to Bucharest. We had a wonderful dinner in Vienna and I remember all the laughter. My little home is graced with two of Gerryanne's floral paintings. I treasure them. My heart goes out to all the family. - Posted by: June Elliot (friend) on: Feb 17, 2016
