WRAY JOHNSTON YOUMANS It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce the sudden passing on of our grandfather and father, Wray Youmans, on Friday, February 12, 2016, while vacationing in South Padre Island, Texas. Wray (Dad) leaves to mourn, his children: Wray Youmans, Jr., Grace Lewald, Rick (Sandra) Youmans, Cindy (Darryl) Gledhill. Grandpa also leaves behind his grandchildren: Brendon, Tannis, Holly, Codi, Dustin, Jamie, Ty and Trey. Also mourning his loss is his surviving sibling Berna Buchanan, friend Lee Freeman and many more family members and friends. Dad is predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Gerry Youmans and two infant children, Cherylann and Larry and his grandson Kyle. Wray was born in Winnipeg, December 16, 1930. Wray and Gerry married on June 11, 1954 and raised their four children in Winnipeg and summers out at Lundar beach. Wray had a long and fulfilling career at Manitoba Telephone System. He was a long-standing member of the Elks club, as well as many other clubs and associations. Dad loved people and loved to socialize. He lived the last 21 years at Lundar thoroughly enjoying his retirement at the beach. Dad and Grandpa, You've shown us how to accept others, to love and experience life to the fullest and to always have a great time. His smile always had such a profound effect on everyone who met him. It breaks our hearts to lose you but we know we will see you again one day. There will be a private graveside ceremony for family and a beachside celebration of life for family and friends to follow in the summertime. Flowers gratefully declined, however if you so choose, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Dad's honour.

Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • This is the first anniversary of my dad's passing and was just looking back for the first time on the comments posted with his obituary in the Free Press, when I came across the condolences message from Rick in which he shared that Wray had passed away a week after my dad. I was so sad to learn of this. I always very much liked your mom and dad and all the special times we spent in their company. My most sincere condolences go out to the Youmans' family. Yes, when I think of Wray, he is always wearing a beautiful smile. - Posted by: Diane Chatelain (Blair) (Daughter of Friends of Wray and Gerry) on: Feb 04, 2017

  • Wray with a W was our first and best friend that we met on South Padre Island back in 2007. We shared many good times and our memories of these will be what we remember about Wray. Our deepest condolences go out to all of his family as well as his dear friend Lee. Patsy and Roger Joseph - Posted by: Patsy And Roger Joseph (Dear firend) on: Feb 25, 2016

  • We were sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle Wray. I have many happy memories of time spent with Uncle Wray and Aunt Gerry both in the city and at the beach especially when I was growing up. When I was in training at the Grace hospital I used to drop by fairly regularly for a visit or a home cooked meal...I was always welcome. Patrick and I wish to extend our condolences to the Youmans family. - Posted by: Sandy and Patrick Metcalfe (Niece) on: Feb 23, 2016

  • Sorry to hear about Wray's passing. Wray and I worked together for many years and I learned a lot from him. He was highly regarded by his customers as well as fellow employees. When Wray retired I took over his accounts and on many occasions I was told by his customers that I have mighty big shoes to fill. - Posted by: Dan Tysz (Friend from MTS) on: Feb 23, 2016

  • Very sorry to hear of Uncle Wray's passing. I will always remember many happy times down at Gram's cottage at Hobans years ago with Auntie Gerry, Uncle Wray , Gram and Grandpa. Also, the family get togethers when we were just kids. The siblings have now passed but I am sure there are many "happy hours" where they now reside. . Good bye Uncle Wray, or Mr. Pickle until we meet again. From Mrs Pickle, as he always called me. Our condolences to all the Youman family. - Posted by: Sharon and Peter Sloggett (niece) on: Feb 22, 2016

  • Looking back how great it was that Uncle Wray and Rick made the trip east to Mellisa's wedding. Deep down I think Mom and Wray knew it might be the last time they saw each other. Could their possibly be a happier person than Uncle Wray? If so I've yet to meet them. Thinking of all my Western cousin's while you grieve your great loss.
