DOUGLAS ARTHUR FLYNN
Date of Passing: Feb 14, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS ARTHUR FLYNN It is with profound sadness that the family of Douglas Arthur Flynn announces his passing on February 14, 2016 at the age of 63. Doug is survived by his loving wife Joanne; children Erin, Kim (Cameron) and Shannon (Jason); stepsons Jake and Jon and precious grandchildren Connor and Lily. He is also survived by his brother Don and sister Debbie. He was predeceased by his parents Merle and George and brother-in-law Orville. Doug was an accountant by education and career but a carpenter and general handyman at heart. Family and friends benefitted from his hard work building and repairing things over the years. The cottage at Winnipeg Beach was a place that he loved. After many years of planning, it gave him great pleasure to orchestrate the construction of a beautiful new cottage which he was able to enjoy over the last couple of years. Doug rode his beloved motorcycle for many years with many memorable trips including a wonderful trip to the Okanagan with Joanne. More recently Doug enjoyed driving the Corvette although he always claimed it was Joanne's car. Doug was well known as a great cook and master of wine making; two things that he thoroughly enjoyed and that provided family and friends with good times and many memories. Doug was thrilled to become a grandfather and had a special relationship with Connor and Lily that was both loving and teasing. Both children have inherited his sense of humor and they adored their Grandpa. Doug cared deeply for his daughters and he was very proud of them and their talents. He did his best to support them in every way and they remained his darling little girls to the end of his life. Doug and Joanne were together for almost 24 years. As strong individuals, each brought to the relationship the strength that the other needed. Their love was deep and enduring and was ever present in Doug's last few months of illness. Doug cared about people and was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Whether at work or at home, Doug had a warm and encouraging manner and the ability to say just what a person needed to hear. He also had a well developed sense of humor and was involved with numerous practical jokes with his working colleagues. Doug always stood up for what he believed in, sometimes with a strength that was backed with the power of his Irish temper. Doug was a loving father, husband, brother, uncle and grandfather and he will be deeply grieved and sorely missed. The family would like to thank the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and the staff at the Health Sciences Centre for the excellent, professional and compassionate care provided to Doug over the last two months. Memorial service will be held on Monday, February 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Erin, Kim and Shannon, my thoughts are with you. I met your Dad when we were neighbours at Winnipeg Beach. Since the, I met with him each spring at the cottage to get some of his asparagus plants for my garden in Gimli and to have a good visit. Hope that we meet again some day.
