GERALD JOSEPH (GERRY) YAKIMENKO June 26, 1938 - Lampman, SK February 22, 2016 - Calgary, AB After a courageous four-year battle with Mesothelioma, Gerry passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22 at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary. He was 77 years old. Born on June 26, 1938 in Lampman, Saskatchewan and living in Vancouver, BC for nearly 10 years Gerry joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1957. This took him to Clinton, Ontario where he and Arlene were married in November 1959. From Clinton, the journey took Gerry and Arlene to Barrie, Ontario, Port Clyde, Nova Scotia and then to Sidney, Nova Scotia having three sons along the way. Gerry left the military in 1967 moving his family to Kenora, Ontario to work with the Department of Transportation, having a fourth son that year. In 1971 the family moved to Winnipeg where they stayed until Gerry's retirement from the Ministry of Transportation in 1994. In 1995, Gerry and Arlene moved to Calgary. Gerry will be dearly missed by everyone whose life he touched. He was always the first person to offer a helping hand and no ask was too big or too small for him to volunteer his help. Gerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Arlene; their sons, Dean, Don (Vickie) and Dennis (Denise); granddaughter Aimee (Kyle); and grandsons, Alex and Evan. Gerry's son Dan predeceased him in 2007. A small informal celebration of Gerry's life will be held at his home on Saturday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
