DIANE GERMAINE OWENS On February 20, 2016, suddenly and without pain, Diane Germaine Owens passed away at her home in Ste. Pierre-Jolys, Manitoba. Predeceased by her husband and love of her life Gillis in 2001, her first born son Mark in 2013, her brothers Oscar and Richmond, and her parents Eugene and Margo. She is survived by her son Troy, his wife Nicole; grandchildren, Hunter, Brandon, Austin, and Bethany, great-grandchildren Alicia and Aubree, her sisters Ginette (Rick), Rita (Ted), Lynn (Ron), Elaine, and Evelyn; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Diane was born October 3, 1950 in Ste. Pierre-Jolys, Manitoba, where she lived and worked until she met the love of her life Gillis Hunter Owens, while working at La Routier in Ste. Pierre. Diane and Gillis were married on November 16, 1968. Not too long after on March 6, 1969 their first son Mark was born. They saved the best for last and on January 25, 1974 they completed their family with their dashing and charismatic son Troy (guess we know who's writing this). Mom's passion in life was her family, and growing up there is nothing she wouldn't do for us, any of us. She was always there no matter what we needed. This was demonstrated throughout her life with all of her work she did with Child and Family Services, AA and Kinettes. She gave of herself selflessly, and never turned someone in need away. The only thing she loved more than giving was my dad Gillis. The doctor told me she died due to an enlarged heart. How fitting and how true. Her heart was huge and made of gold. How am I supposed to sum up the life of the woman who gave me life in a short passage? Simply by saying; Mom, the world was an infinitely better place with you in it. You will be terribly missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved. We will see you on the other side. A celebration of life will take place Tuesday, March 1, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at St. James Anglican Church, 195 Collegiate Street with a lunch to follow. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I have fond memories of Diane ... I think the last time we were together we were attending the Clear Lake retreat and we had Jack S. Van which we had to stop to get fixed more than once on our way . Diane was light-hearted about it because she thought so much of Jack. Even though I had not seen Diane for quite awhile ... She had a place in my heart . She had courage and conviction . Prayers and Love to her family - Posted by: Jo-Anne Lowenberger (Old Friend ) on: Feb 27, 2016

  • Growing up, we were neighbours from across the street in St. Pierre. I also worked with Diane at Le Routier and was working with her often when the crew Gillis worked with would come in for meals. They did make a very good looking couple, indeed. During my last visit to St. Pierre in October 2015, I am grateful to have had a chance to chat with Diane outside of Le Manoir. My husband, Etienne and I , both from St. Pierre originally, and friends of the L'Heureux family are very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Rita Bohemier Rioux (Childhood neighbours) on: Feb 27, 2016

  • Diane was always a ray of sunshine - helpful, optimistic and extremely fair. My deepest condolences to her family. - Posted by: Jan Henley (Co worker from CFS) on: Feb 27, 2016

  • I met Diane during a very dark time in my life journey and she taught me to never give up hope. And in spite of her own loneliness and sadness she showed me how to laugh again. Diane made this world a brighter place. I will never forget her generosity, kindness and friendship. RIP my dear friend, and my deepest condolences to her family. - Posted by: Phyllis Ritchie (Friend of the "sisterhood") on: Feb 27, 2016
