GILBERT ELMO HARDY
Born: Feb 11, 1935
Date of Passing: Mar 02, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGILBERT ELMO HARDY February 11, 1935 to March 2, 2016 It is with true sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather at the age of 81. He will be greatly missed by his wife Eva, son Gilbert, daughter Valerie and son-in-law Edward. His love for his grandchildren Rayanne, Haley, Ryan, Madison and Taylor was a profound positive in his life, fuelling his imagination, and giving his inner story-teller an attentive audience. We will all miss his spirited conversations, his wry humour, and of course, his singing. Gil was born in Toronto ON, but moved to Winnipeg in 1955 with the RCAF, meeting and marrying Eva in 1958. He lived his life respecting the rights of others, and he thrived on mentoring those who followed him, specifically regarding diligence to aviation safety standards. He made many life-long friends through his Air Force years and was always so animated when recalling those experiences. Following his early retirement from the forces, he became a successful decorating consultant for Steek's Fine Furniture and Penthouse Furniture. His artistic self flourished during this time and he was thrilled to have found this second calling. In his spare time he wrote short stories, poetry, and actively reworked a novel he had developed. No public memorial is planned, at Gil's request. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to Myeloma Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choosing. Life at it's longest is still short. With love, it is eternal.

We would like to extend to Eva and her extended family our sincere condolences on the loss of husband, father and grandfather Gil Hardy. We that served with him were honored and proud to be called his compatriots. His mentor ship to the younger airmen was well received, and the benefits are obvious today. He was respected by high levels of military staff and his peers. His humor and dry wit enhanced our "esprit de corps". Us that knew him for 50 yrs are privileged to call him our fiend. We wish you a speedy journey Gil and eternal piece....and as you were a poet, we offer to you and family a parable that would suit you well... High Flight Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sun ward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air… . Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or ever eagle flew — And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. — John Gillespie Magee, Jr - Posted by: RCAF "Brorhers in Arms" (Special Friends) on: Mar 12, 2016

I will always remember Gil as a very kind & friendly neighbour. He always made time to talk to everyone even the children. - Posted by: Marjorie Miller (nee Thompson) (Old neighbour from Warsaw Ave.) on: Mar 06, 2016
