SHERRI KILBORN (SLADEK)
Born: Mar 01, 1962
Date of Passing: Feb 29, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHERRI KILBORN (nee SLADEK) March 1, 1962 - February 29, 2016 Peacefully on Monday, February 29, 2016, just one day before her birthday, Jesus took her by the hand and guided her to heaven where there will be no pain after a lengthy battle with cancer. Leaving to mourn is her husband Jim, her parents, John and Margaret Sladek, brothers John and Scott, and sister Lisa, with many nieces and nephews and also sisters-in-laws, Chris and Wendy with their children, and especially mom-in-law, Janet. Sherri had a very avid life being born March 1, 1962 in Winnipeg, and was raised on a farm in Plumas, Manitoba. As a farmgirl, she was always to be the troublemaker by daring her brothers to do things they don't understand, but do it anyways. That was always the cue for Sherri to smile. When she returned to Winnipeg, she got her education at Murdoch MacKay High School Collegiate where she graduated with honours. She attended University of Manitoba to try to get a bachelor of arts degree, but instead decided to go to beauty school. She became a graduate again with honours and started working for Singletons, where from there she went on to Magicuts and became manager of a store she loved back home in Transcona. Sherri always had a fondness for antiques and to this day, has a collection that would make anybody jealous. But her main loves, she always cherished, was her God given ability and talent with her hands to do needlepoint, where she created some of the most artistic pictures. Her other love was animals, especially cats. Her love towards her family of cats were like having the children she never had. Sherri was also interested to learn sign language to communicate with her clients who were of impaired hearing, so they could feel comfortable when she was cutting their hair. She also had a likeness for hockey, courtesy of her husband who introduced her to the Manitoba Moose and eventually the Winnipeg Jets. Through her illness, she always tried to attend games. She was also an avid reader with tons of books of mystery, suspense and above all, love. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Sherri's life will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 Kildare Ave. West in Transcona with Rev. Harold Borchardt officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Riverview Health Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. I will see you in heaven sweetie! Where we will have our dance once again. *Tickly Bum* Funeral Arrangements in Care of: Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street - 204-224-1525 Please sign the book of memories at www.wheelerfuneral.com

It has been a while and i will always remember at family get-togethers how she would always hype me up for a good talk about Doctor Who. She was a great aunt and will be remembered. Live, calm yourself and smile while all around you weep. And remember when the sun goes down, it returns with a bright tomorrow. Cherish the memories and please don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. So, breathe. Listen for my footfall in your heart. I am not gone but merely walk within you. - A/N - Posted by: Shaelynn Sladek (Niece) on: Jan 28, 2020

It has been 2 years since Sherri passed away, and since it is her birthday, I wanted to acknowledge that I still miss her very much. She was more than a hairdresser to me, but a welcoming face and friendly ear who I looked forward to seeing every appointment. I think about her often, and wish her family my sympathy on this special day. - Posted by: Shelly (Customer) on: Mar 01, 2018

I was always hoping Sheri able to combat her cancer so that I could get her to do my hair again. To find out she passed away in the same day of my other friend who also died from cancer was very painful. My grieving process started all over again. I shall miss her very much because she had been my hairdresser for over 20 years. She had my total respect because she devoted more than 100% of her skills and effort to her customers. Thank you so much for years of excellent services. Our deep sympathy to her family! - Posted by: Kitty Yue (Client) on: Mar 31, 2016

Sherri was my hairdresser for over 15 years. I always looked forward to seeing her for my haircuts and perms. We would discuss at length our love of cats, books and certain tv shows like Supernatural. She always remembered what we had talked about before during previous appointments. I loved her sense of humour and her compassion for her clients. I was very sad when I learned she had cancer. I was lucky enough to keep in touch with her even when she was not working. I will miss Sherri very much and my deepest sympathies go out to her husband and her family and her furry children. - Posted by: Shelly Lamm (Customer) on: Mar 12, 2016

Sherri was not only wonderful with scissors and combs - she was funny, talkative and kind. As I would wait my turn to have her cut my hair, I would watch and see her being so considerate of the elderly, and respectful to all. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: janice (customer) on: Mar 07, 2016
