RON (SLIP) MAHONEY May 27, 1937 - February 26, 2016 After a quick but tough battle with cancer, it is with great sadness to say we lost our hero, beloved husband and father, Ron (Slip). With his family by his side, a heart of gold stopped beating. Our hearts are broken, but He gave us an angel. Ron leaves to mourn Pat, his wife of 59 years; children Glen (Wendy), Gale (Jack), Valerie (Brian) and Brent (Lori); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and brother Barry (Sandi). He was predeceased by his parents Jean Millar and Edgar Mahoney; stepfather John (Jack) Millar and recently his two granddaughters Diana Palmerton (Mahoney) and Jessica Mahoney and brother-in-law Lindsay Tait. Ron was a self-employed electrical contractor. He curled and played football for the Norquay Rams, though coaching was his passion. He coached football for the West End Rams and Weston Wildcats and hockey in St. James for many years. His best friends were his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They relished in his ability to spin a yarn. We would like to thank Dr. Stephenson for his care and support, his homecare nurses, Sean and Michelle, and the staff at Riverview. Cremation has taken place. Please join us in celebrating Ron's life on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Army and Navy #283, 3584 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Research at the Canadian Cancer Society - Manitoba. I love you Slip. We love you Dad. Bardal Funeral Home 204-774-7474 Condolences www.bardal.ca

Going thru old pics (Irene-mother, Charlene-daughter, Sherilyn-granddaughter, all deceased sadly) & found a pic of Ron Mahoney playing drums in 1953. The nose looks the same! Please email me if you would like it! - Posted by: Suzanne Tighe (Friend of Friend ) on: Apr 11, 2023

After working indirectly with both you Glen and your father at Standard Aero for many years and having been through a similar situation with my father 15 years ago, it is with great sadness I send you my condolences. - Posted by: John Teichroeb (Former indirect coworker) on: Apr 18, 2016

Ron was a long time friend and I have great memories: playing for the West End Rams, working together, fly-in fishing, golf (including trips to San Antonio), laughing and reminiscing over a few drinks, discussing good times and bad. He was a rock of support for his family, a contributor to the community, and an accomplished tradesman and businessman. Ron was one of the good guys and a true friend. He will be sorely missed. I'm sorry I'm unable to attend his final celebration, but I'll remember the many we had in the past. - Posted by: Wayne Guicheret (Friend) on: Mar 12, 2016

So sorry for the loss of a man who brought his knowledge and love of sports to so many in our community. Any time spent with Uncle Slip at family functions or a friendly visit were cherished by me. He will be missed. Looking upon us now with other family loved ones will be felt. - Posted by: Jon Miller (Nephew) on: Mar 12, 2016

Auntie Pat and family, I am sorry for your loss. Uncle Slip and my whole Mahoney family have been such a wonderful part of my childhood and my whole life. I will always remember his awesome sense of humour, sarcasm, cheekiness and how truly loving and giving he was. A truly great man. Uncle Slip was such a huge part of my dad's life, for most of his life, and that brought all of us together as a family and I am so thankful for that. We will all dearly miss him. All my love, Carrie ❤️ - Posted by: Carrie Thivierge () on: Mar 10, 2016

Extremely sorry to hear of Ron's passing. We shared many a good time and several laughs with Ron. He loved his Big Band music and talking drumming. Even lost a few balls on the golf course with him. Our condolences to the family. He will be missed. Rest well Ron - Posted by: Cal & Cindy Popoff (Friend) on: Mar 09, 2016

Phyllis and I are terribly sad to hear of Ron's passing. Although it has been a good number of years since we last saw each other I always remember our travels with hockey teams from St. James to Edmonton and Minnesota. I considered Ron a good friend and enjoyed his company. Hopefully your many years together Pat will give you some comfort at this time.
