DOUGLAS MACPHERSON On February 29, 2016, at the age of 91, Douglas' full and rich life came to it's conclusion. He is survived by his wife Una Ruth, the love of his life for more than 65 years. Left to carry on his legacy are daughter Laurie Horrocks (John) and son Stew Macpherson (Diane); his grandchildren, Christopher (Brooke) Horrocks, Jeffrey (Heather) Horrocks, Brock Macpherson and Madison Macpherson; and his great-grandchildren, Aubree, Cayden and Tate Horrocks, and Benjamin and James Horrocks. Also left to mourn are his sisters, Margaret Thomas and Jean (Sonny) Kirton; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Al and Alma Fredericks, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Helen Wood. After serving in the Second World War, Douglas worked for CNR until his retirement in 1981. His goal was to be retired longer than he worked and he almost accomplished that! In his younger days he curled, played hockey and baseball but golf was his second love, exceeded only by the love for his family. He was never happier than when he spent time with family, be it a celebratory dinner, attending a kids sporting event, dance recital, fashion show or concert. Playing "marbles" and cards gave him both great pleasure and extreme anguish. The family is extremely grateful that he did not suffer in the end and would like to thank the staff at Victoria Hospital for their care. As per his wishes, there will be no formal service, but we know he would be pleased if you downed a "rummer" or told a joke in his honour.

  • I've known Doug for the 40 + years I've been a member at Rossmere - without a doubt one of the classiest guys there - or anywhere. I also crossed paths refereeing basketball games - I assume it was his grandson. Always brightened up my day. Sorry - no funny stories. But I hope I'm remembered as fondly by those whose lives I've touched - although he would be hard to match. - Posted by: Syd Korsunsky (Rossmere member of long standing) on: Mar 05, 2016
