MARY CAROL ROMANIUK Peacefully, with family by her side, at 86 years of age, Mary Carol Romaniuk died at her home on March 8, 2016. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 65 years, Bill, and her children, Gloria (Greg), Valerie (Archie), Patricia (Del), Lloyd (Jacque); grandchildren, Bill (Alana), Jadel, Robyn (Cam), Roslyn, Miranda (Harley), and Trevor (Danielle). Carol was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Prokopsky (née Dmytrow); her infant sister, Francis. She is survived by her siblings, Elsie Senkow, Don Prokopsky, Millie Krystyk, James Parker, Josie Rehel, John Prokopsky, Florence Prokopsky and by many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, all of whom she loved. Carol grew up in Prawda, Manitoba. She was the first of her siblings to move to Winnipeg. Once she became settled, and particularly after she married Bill in 1950, she welcomed and guided several of her siblings until they found their feet. Like many young women in post war Winnipeg, she first worked in the garment industry, but she never let her grade seven education hold her back. She tried various jobs during different phases of her life. Her last and perhaps favourite job was in the jewelry department of The Bay. She was dauntless, though modest, a fast learner and very conscientious. She enjoyed people and was a generous and warm listener. Mom's wish was to be cremated. Wheeler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be a private gathering for family and friends at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honoured by donations to a charity of your choice. The family is bounteously grateful to Mom's doctors, to Home Care and Palliative Care who gently guided the family during the last days. Thanks to their friends and staff at Devonshire House. And thanks to family and friends who helped Mom say good-bye to a rich life. Hers was a simple life. Though there was struggle and though there was pain, there was joy and laughter! The world was a better place for her presence. And now to rest, loving spirit. This obituary can also be found at www.wheelerfuneral.com

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • To our dear friends Lloyd and Jacki: Thinking of you both. Lloyd, we know what it is like to lose a mother. Though we only met her once, she obviously was a fine lady and good mother, and you will miss her. Let all the good memories be her legacy.
