Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (JIM) WALTER DORAN March 26, 1952 - March 4, 2016 Jim left us far too soon but his legacy and memory will be forever cherished and celebrated by family and friends. As we mourn his passing, we honour his life of strength, humour, kindness, laughter, curiosity and wonder. Jim had a Renaissance spirit that was fascinated by art, astronomy, oenophilia, science, technology and the written word. Jim's greatest accomplishments were as a renowned enamel artist which earned him induction into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. His tour-de-force enamel on copper pieces have exhibited world-wide to great acclaim. His work is visually stunning and masterfully executed. Unique throughout Jim's artistry is his homage to science and trompe l'oeil and his undeniable tongue-in-cheek sense of humour. Jim will be sadly missed by Karen Dahl, his life-mate and wife. Loving unconditionally and deeply, Jim and Karen lived a simple and full life together for almost 30 years. Also left to mourn his passing are siblings Bill, Maureen and Kathy and their families. Each of us feels a special connection to Jim that leaves us wanting more. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date. If desired a donation in Jim's name may be made to The Humane Society or MCC Disaster Relief. Many thanks to the doctors and staff at CancerCare Manitoba. In typical fashion, during his last days with us, concerns about his own well-being could not dim Jim's passion for life. When asked how he was feeling, Jim proclaimed, "Wow! They discovered gravitational waves!" Jim was one of the good ones.

Jim and I were enamel artists. Jim was among the best artists I've had the privilege to know. He brought his lovely and talented wife Karen to Seattle where I met him in person for the first time. He was such a kind and generous soul whom I will never forget. We corresponded over the years and lost touch a few years ago. I found Jims obituary on line this morning and learned of his passing. I know our spirits are still connected somewhere out there in a place called forever. - Posted by: Cheryll Leo- Gwin (Artist colleague) on: Jan 21, 2017

I first knew Jim (Zim as my daughters later called him!), when he was a young boy growing up in Vancouver. He had played baseball and had delivered the local newspapers. Jim was always a very alive and enthusiastic young boy which stayed with him during his many years as an adult. I remember his love of animals, how he entertained my daughters by looking after and feeding turtles, his endless stories of make believe and his general appreciation of new adventures or experiences. I was very interested in Jim's incredible art work, having seen and admired many of his pieces. I am very privileged or lucky to have 3 of his wonderful enamel on copper works. I am so happy to have known Jim during my life and I send my sincere condolences to Bill, Maureen and Kathy and their families. Jim's parents were great life-long friends of mine and his mother Molly was my "rock". Gail Nicholas, Delta, B.C. - Posted by: Gail Nicholas (family friend) on: Mar 25, 2016
