Date of Passing: Mar 07, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOIS MARY JOHNSTON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lois Johnston (nee Major) at 81 years of age. With family and friends at her side, Lois passed away March 7, 2016 in Wainwright, Alberta. She is survived by her three children - Patrick (Lise), Diane (Bill) and Rosalee (Leon), grandchildren Marie, Michelle, Christopher, David and Rebecca, great-grandchildren Brendan, Dallas and Reece, brother Tom, and sisters Wilda, Cassey, Eva and Esther, her sister who in her younger years lived with Don and Lois and was like a daughter to them. Esther was very close to Lois, visited often and was a great help and comfort to her over the years. Lois was predeceased by her loving husband Donald, brother Joe, sister Bernice, and granddaughter Cara. Lois was a wonderful mother and grandmother who always put family first. Don served in the Canadian Air Force which meant a lot of moves for the family. The last posting was in Winnipeg. Mom made many friends along the way. One very special friend, Diane was a great help to Lois while she was still living in Winnipeg. Diane and Lois remained close even after her move to Wainwright. Diane would visit on occasion and was able to make a trip to see Lois just before she embarked on her final journey. Mom was so fortunate to have many loving, caring people pass through her life. The home care staff in Winnipeg and staff at Points West in Wainwright were not just caregivers but good friends. Respecting Lois's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. The family will gather privately at a later date to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Myself had very special memories of Lois. Playing cards many nights. I would leave my house after dinner and head over to Lois and Don's house to play cards and have snacks. I'm so sorry that I didn't get to see her over the last years, she was always in my thoughts. Mom and I would go through the pictures she had kept from their many adventures, and the stories mom would tell of them in the camper trips they would take to Morris Stampede and beyond. My dog Sampson sleeping in the back of Diane's car was just one of the many laughs we had. Mom always said Lois made the best Rubin sandwiches for their evenings of card playing. I loved her given spirit and large laugh. She was always in our thoughts, and mom is saying my Dad and Don will be meeting her at the front door to welcome her in.. Love to Diane, Patrick and Rose...xxoo - Posted by: brenda kennedy and Mom flora green (close friend) on: Jul 20, 2016
