CLAYTON CONRAD MUNZ October 23, 1938 - February 9, 2016 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Clay Conrad Munz, with his family by his side, at the St. Boniface General Hospital. He leaves to mourn the love of his life of 32 years, Marjolaine, his children Robin (Gary Couronne) and their children Shane (Tiane) and Stephanie (Paddy), Melody (Zbynek Bozdech), Jeannelle (Gyula) and their children Maxime, Maviyé-Clayton and Joannique, his son Jérôme (Chrissy), in-laws, many nieces and nephews, aunt Shirley Louise, her daughter Linda, his great friend and cousin Randy who was like a brother to him, and his loyal dog and special cat. Clayton was predeceased by his beloved son Cameron, sister Gwen, and loving parents Frederick and Evelyn. Clayton was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the North End, attending school in West Kildonan, followed by the University of Manitoba and later joined the Department of Transport as a Meteorological Technician (weatherman). While working in Hudson Bay, SK in 1959, he met Valerie. In 1964, with their three children, they moved to Los Angeles, and was employed at a bank as a work standard specialist; an auditor and bank manager in Downey, CA. Returning to Winnipeg in 1973, he was a bank manager. Following his banking career, was a stock broker, an insurance agent, eventually moving on to different fields and retiring in 1999. Joining the Canadian German Society, he followed in his father's footsteps giving back to his community with his dedication and energy. Life time member, served as an auditor, was on the board of directors and held four terms as President. He was instrumental in organizing many fundraisers, including Bingo. The proceeds of which created a true North End icon, an 11 storey senior's complex and bowling alley. Clayton Munz was initiated into Fidelity Lodge No. 146 in 1978 and served as their Worshipful Master from 1984 to 1988. He was a member of Northern Light Prince Rupert's Lodge No. 1, Empire Lodge (Lifetime member), Keystone Lodge No. 185, Honorary PGM Grand Lodge of Minnesota (Lifetime Member), District Deputy Grand Master - 11th Masonic District from 1994 to 1995, Elected to the GLM Board of General Purposes (1997 to 1999), Junior Grand Warden 1999, Senior Grand Warden 2000, Deputy Grand Master 2001, Grand Master 2002 to 2003. After becoming a member of the Board of General Purposes, he served on the finance and administration committee for many years. He also served on the Grand Master's Special Committee on Masonic Renewal and Manitoba Masonic Retreat 2002 to 2003. Active member of the Board of General Purpose and Grand Lodge Committees as Past Grand Master 2003 to 2016. He was a man of many talents; a walking calculator, a handyman. He spent many years coaching and as a referee in minor hockey, but his great love was music. Amazing accordion player and singer, his musical talents were witnessed by many on several occasions through the years. As his band of 30 years, The Good Time (1973 to 1995) with Clay, Vince, Art and then Vic, wound up Clay continued to play with other musicians. Later for his own pleasure, family and friends. Dad's musical talent was passed on to his children and grandchildren. Many a good times were had. Well-liked and respected, excelled in many things he put his mind to. A proud Métis, immersed in French, he was an Honorary Frenchman, speaking French to his grandchildren and even his dog. Every day was a blessing, including early morning and evening for Pépé, as the phone rang, it was the grandchildren. When he walked into a room, no one else mattered, it was Pépé. Pépé: "Catch your hugs and kisses", Beaucoup d'amour Thank you for your brightest star in the sky. Clayton signed his donor card, please sign yours. Memories! What a gift, share yours today. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I will miss my friend Clay. I will remember him sitting in lodge together, at the board meetings, at the picnics, at the Christmas parties, at the social hour having a beverage together, breaking bread, everytime there is an accordion playing, and at the poker tournaments where he would take control of all my chips. Clay was always someone you could count on for help, for advice, and to bust your guts laughing with. His facial expressions were fun to watch when he would roll his eyes when something resembling idiocy was happening. We enjoyed many chuckles together. Watching Clay with his grandkids was always a joy, and the bond was solid. As always it was " Happy to Meet. Sorry to Part. Happy to Meet Again!" Clay will be remembered! - Posted by: Brian Segal (Lodge Brother, friend, and financial contributor at poker table. ) on: Mar 14, 2016
