JEAN (JANE) KLAYH (nee WATSON) Jean passed away at Maples Personal Care Home March 12, 2016. She was born in Winnipeg, February 21, 1921, to John and Emily Watson, Scottish immigrants. She was predeceased by her parents, and her two brothers, Donald (Lila) and Jack (Margaret). Jean married her husband Arnold, of almost 70 years who had been her paperboy. As it happened, the Second World War struck and Jean enlisted as a Wren serving at the Naval base at Cornwallis, NS. She was transported by the ferry The Queen Mary under Canadian Naval commission and received full Veteran status. While down east she also completed a seamstress certificate from Ryerson Technology Institute. While on war leave, Jean and Arnold met again and married September 28, 1946. They had four children, John (Bonnie), Keith, Karen (Barry), and Lisa (Ansis), 14 grandchildren, and15 great-grandchildren. Jean was an avid reader and owned her own bookstore on Portage Avenue called Modern Motivational Services. Mom was always inviting people for dinner especially the elderly and those with limited family. She loved animals, gardening, travel, and her cabin at Nutimik Lake. Grandma adored all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would endlessly listen to their stories, play cards and games. On retirement, Jean and Arnold moved to Nanaimo, BC and Mom loved the time she spent there until health issues brought them to Winnipeg to be close to family. She loved entertaining friends, the dance crowd and hosted fun theme parties. Seldom do you meet someone as welcoming as Jean. Jean was loved by many and will be missed by all. The family would like to extend our thanks to Maples Personal Care Home staff and Dr. Jain. They treated her with care and concern during her stay with them, as well her additional support workers Emmi and Emily. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice or to CNIB. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Jean's life at Birds Hill United Church, 105 Burton Ave., East St. Paul, Saturday, March 19 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
