BARBARA RIFKIN Barbara Rifkin, a pioneer nursery school teacher with the Winnipeg School Division, died March 14, 2016. She was beloved by her family, friends and countless students. Born in Winnipeg, the youngest child of Ben and Fannie Permack. She was a devoted daughter, voracious reader and in her younger days, a standout volleyball player. Barbara attended United College in Winnipeg, where she met fellow student Saul Rifkin. They were married for 60 years. He became the love of her life, and theirs was a magical relationship. She graduated there and also graduated from The Institute For Child Study in Toronto. They had two sons, Gerald and Martin, raising them on the belief that the most important things in life were family, education and unforgettable experiences. After retirement, Barbara and Saul embarked on a new adventure leading tour groups to different places around the world. Barbara had the deepest bonds with her sister Sheila Livingston, brother David Permack- and their spouses, Ken Livingston and Shirley Permack. Barbara was the truest of friends and enjoyed the staunch love of a close circle of friends. Barbara is survived by Saul; Gerald (Jenny) and Martin (Margo); grandchildren, Jesse, Jada, Nicole, Eric and Leonard; siblings, David and Sheila, and many family members and friends. The burial took place March 16. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Canadian Museum For Human Rights or a charity of the giver's choice.
