LAUREN (LAURIE) MARJORIE BLUE January 18, 1949 - Pine Falls, Manitoba March 11, 2016 - Calgary, Alberta It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurie Blue in the early morning hours of March 11, 2016, surrounded by loving family and friends. Laurie was a dedicated mother to Marnie Anthony; loving sister to Gloria (Graham); aunt to Robert and Kevin Collins; and loyal friend to many. Laurie had a 35-year career working for the Manitoba Government in the Court of Queen's Bench and retired as a Maintenance Enforcement officer in 2013. She was a passionate volunteer and spent many hours with Meals on Wheels, Riding for the Disabled, and Golden Wings. Laurie loved her pets and her terrier Dudley will surely miss her loving touch. Though she resided in Calgary at the time of her passing, Winnipeg to Laurie was always home. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Palliative Care nurses Pat and Helen, and the wonderful staff at the Southwood Hospice. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Laurie's Life will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home (1605 - 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. To express condolences, please visit: www.mountainviewmemorial.ca

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • I worked with Lori delivering meals on wheels for a number of years, the world is a much lonelier place without her, one more kind heart has been silenced forever, fly high old friend, you’re not forgotten. - Posted by: Charles Pearce (Friend ) on: Mar 15, 2022

  • I have known Laurie since I was in grade six and she was in grade seven in public school. It is hard to think that I will no longer be able to write holiday wishes each year or catch up on our families. I will miss her for a long time to come but all my memories are good ones. She was a wonderful person that I called Friend. - Posted by: christine (friend) on: Mar 20, 2016

  • Lori and I worked together shortly before she retired. We immediately realized our common passion for animals (especially dogs) and I was especially privileged to be invited to her home to meet her little dog Dudley. She was such a graceful lady. Even when she fell ill, she maintained such a sense of dignity. I truly admired her strength and courage. The Lord comforts her now. - Posted by: Sherree Lang (Friend and co-worker) on: Mar 18, 2016

  • Laurie was an amazing lady! She was very kind and caring to me when I first came to Winnipeg. She was like an "aunt" to me. Later when I got married and had a son, she was like my "home away from home mom". She was always fun, kind, caring and she will always be in our hearts! Marnie, we will always remember the amazing times we had with you and your mom over celebratory dinners. God bless, we're thinking of you during this difficult time. - Posted by: Diane, Terry and Jacob Yee (Friends) on: Mar 16, 2016

  • I worked with Laurie at Great West Life from 1968 to when she moved away and then again from 1972-1974 when we both left to have a child. Laurie was one of my bridesmaids but we lost contact when we left GWL. I have been thinking about her for many years and wondering how to find her. I was saddened when I saw her obituary this morning. My sincere condolences to the family. She was a wonderful friend and co-worker. - Posted by: Kathy Johns (friend/former co-worker) on: Mar 16, 2016

  • It was always a pleasure to work with Laurie she always had a smile and a kind word. She will be missed by all and may there be comfort in knowing that someone so special will never be forgotten. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Madeline Marino (Co-worker) on: Mar 16, 2016
