ELMER KUMHYR On Wednesday, March 9, 2016 our mom, Jean, lost her husband of more than 62 years and we lost our father. Dad could be stubborn, opinionated, humorous, inventive, annoying and more than a little eccentric. Qualities he passed on in varying degrees to his five children: David (Lyn), Karyn, Valerie, Kathy (John) and Paul. He lived his life the way he wanted without apology and we loved him as he was. Dad grew up on a farm in Manitoba with his sister Jean and his brother David. After a brief stint in the Canadian Navy he married Jean Sigurdson of Winnipeg and moved to Raleigh, NC where he started a telecommunications company. In his last years he enjoyed sitting in his front yard with a bourbon and a cigar watching the neighbourhood go by. He will also be remembered by his sister-in-law Thelma, and his numerous nieces, nephews, grandkids and great-grandkids. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life at the family home in Raleigh on May 1.
