Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE WAKEMAN On March 15th, 2016, Irene Wakeman passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre with her children at her side. Irene (nee Garnet) was born May 11, 1925 in Bradford, England. While serving in the Land Army during the Second World War she met Ted. They married six months later and went on to spend 57 wonderful years together. After coming to Canada in 1946, Mum and Dad moved around the country, living in eight places before settling in Winnipeg in 1968. Mum felt that Winnipeg was home and was happy to stay here. After retirement Mum and Dad travelled extensively, enjoying many adventures along the way. She was always grateful that they had 20 years of travel and fun prior to Dad's passing. Mum being the social creature that she was, joined several groups after coming to Winnipeg. She loved to visit her friends at Ladies Euchre, Ladies Lunch and Stitch and Chat. In 2007 she moved to Sturgeon Creek II Assisted Living, she loved her time there and made many new friends. Spirituality also played a big part in her life. Mum and Dad joined St. Chad's Anglican Church upon their arrival in Winnipeg and she attended services there until her illness. Mum is survived by one sister Margaret, from England, children Rick, Susan, Gail Bales, David, daughter-in-law Lori, grandchildren James, Rob, Kate, Julia, Dustin, Megan, Zach, Matt and Taylor and their families. Also surviving from England is her childhood friend Dorothy. The family would like to thank the Nurses, especially Kate and Carol as well as the rest of the staff on Riverview 3E. Their support in the last weeks was beyond measure. Services to be held Tuesday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Chads Anglican - 472 Kirkfield St. Fellowship will follow the service. it was so nice to meet you all during our time together at Riverview. Your mom was a pleasure to smile at and chat with eveyday that I walked pass. Together our mom's are in a better place - dancing and enjoying a "green beer". Good luck and keep in touch. - Posted by: Shelley McFeetors (Friend from 3E at Riverview) on: Mar 25, 2016

To the Wakeman family; Very sorry to hear of your mothers passing. Irene and Ted and Marie and Charlie were very dear friends. I guess there is some peace in knowing they are all together again. I know you have many wonderful memories to keep you going during this sad time. Sincerely, Kim Zammit and family - Posted by: Kim Zammit (Webster) (Family friend) on: Mar 21, 2016

I'll carry you with me here in my heart From now 'til forever, we never will part, Though all that we hoped for is now in the past, Your memory lingers -the mold has been cast; I'll carry you with me each day from now on Though miles lie between us and you may be gone, You inhabit my dreams as you always have done, Your memory lingers as bright as the sun; I'll carry you with me in each precious thought Remembering your smile and the joy that you brought, My life has been touched by each gift that you gave Your memory lingers from here to the grave; I'll carry you with me wherever I go Your love still surrounds me and grounds me I know, And I can be happy just knowing you care - Your memory lives in my soul everywhere. I'Ll Carry You With Me ! - Poem by Linda Ori Rest easy Irene Love Tiffany, Connor, Chloe Dunn xox - Posted by: Tiffany Dunn (Family Friend) on: Mar 21, 2016

Ahh, Mrs. Wakeman - What a beautiful soul you were. I loved seeing you at lunch time and get a critique on the outfit I was wearing. You even approved of my Doc Martens. You had a great laugh. A big smile. You tried to be so strong before you left Sturgeon Creek II. I remember hugging you when you became frustrated trying to find your words. Certain people were special and you were definitely one of them. Godspeed to heaven. My condolences to all of Mrs. Wakeman's family and friends.
