Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH ANNE JOHNSTONE (nee BUCK) Together we celebrate the life of Ruth Johnstone, a precious mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and friend of many. Warm and loving memories of Ruth can only be captured superficially in words, as she enriched us with her love, humour, and patient commitment. Her love of Jesus, faith in Him, and her love for family and friends never wavered. Following a few years of bravely living with dementia at the River East Personal Care Home, Ruth went to be with her Lord on March 18, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. She was lovingly surrounded by her daughters, their husbands and several of her grandchildren. Ruth was born on January 30, 1923, in Simpson, Saskatchewan, where she spent much of her youth in Regina. She served her country in the military in the Second World War, based in Ottawa as a military photographer. After the war, she pursued studies in Winnipeg at the Pentecostal Bible College where she met her husband, Howard Johnstone. They spent many years in British Columbia in ministry, and returned to Winnipeg where they continued to minister before retirement. Ruth was widely appreciated for her role as Director of the Women's Ministry for the PAOC for Manitoba and Eastern Ontario. She loved serving in this ministry as it took her to different places in the district where she lead Retreats, meetings, and outreaches. It gave her such joy seeing women coming together to worship God and grow deeper in Him. Ruth was a daring rascal, with a flair for sports from her youth and even as a grandma. Always eager to get out there and enjoy an active life. Mom loved to play games and Crokinole was a favourite. The family was at "Risk" playing games with her. Even in her later years, she never felt sorry for herself, as her children dragged her out of her apartment into a personal care home. She spent lots of time laughing, mainly at herself. She will be greatly missed. Celebrating her life are her children Wes, David (Darlene), Rob, Karen Bergen (Corey), Gail Dyck (Ted), 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and extended families. Heartfelt thanks to the staff on Serenity Cove at River East Personal Care Home who took great care of her. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Anderson Fund at Kinderworld (for her great-grandson Nicholas) would be greatly appreciated. (Gateway and Sun Valley Drive) They also give tax receipts. Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, March 25, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the Buntain Chapel (Calvary Temple), 440 Hargrave Street.
