Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMMA KOERNER June 11, 1926 - March 18, 2016 With her daughters at her side, Emma passed away peacefully Friday afternoon at Victoria Hospital. She leaves behind her husband John, daughters: Angelika Strike and Christine Bain; son-in-law Don Bain; grandchildren: Jonathan, Justin (Susan) and Jordan Strike; Leah (Joel), Steven and Evan Wishanski; nephew Werner Bausback (Sigrid) and extended family in Germany. Emma was especially proud of her beautiful great-grandchildren: Ryan, Ashley, Samantha, Hailey and Aiden. She was predeceased by her parents, her three sisters and her foster brother. Born and raised in Germany, in 1954 she immigrated to Canada with her husband John. After raising her family, Emma worked as a seamstress at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and, as wardrobe mistress, travelled the world with the company on tour. In retirement, she enjoyed a good book, travelling and spending time with family. Even in failing health, Mom could still share a smile. We will all miss that smile. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., (204) 925-1120.

After reading Evelyn's eloquent tribute I'm a bit at a loss for words. Emma was all that and more. As a young cutter at RWB Emma showed me patience, support, guidance.and love. I learnt so much from the so very talented artisan she was. The times spent working with her gave me confidence and knowledge that have lasted over the years. My condolences to Emma's family. You have lost a shining angel. - Posted by: Lorraine O'Leary (Colleague and Friend) on: Mar 25, 2016

Emma and I worked together in the Wardrobe Dept.back in the 70's and she was the sweetest lady, an exceptional seamstress and so loved by the dancers whom they nicknamed her "Auntie Em". She will be missed by the many friends that she made at the Ballet and we will never forget the love that she poured into the beautiful costumes that she made, all with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She always spoke of her daughters who were her greatest joy and although I have not seen Emma for many years, I know she would have been the most fun "Oma" for her many grandchildren. God Bless her family and may she rest in peace with that beautiful smile on her face. - Posted by: Marcie Bart (RWB (Wardrobe Dept.)) on: Mar 25, 2016

I will always remember my young days going over to the Koerner house to play with Angelika. Emma taught me to make gravy as I watched her prepare food for Christine. She also made the most marvelous cookie treats with sprinkles. I have searched but never found the recipe. When she worked at MTC she got Angie and I tickets for a show. For me it will always be a memory I cherish as my family could not afford such things. She made my wedding dress after learning that I was planning on sewing it myself. I have lost touch with the family but know she will be missed by many. I think of them often and wish them well. May our memories of her remain with us always. - Posted by: Marilyne Hauser (friend) on: Mar 24, 2016

I can only imagine how much Emma will be missed ! Though I have not seen Emma since her retirement from the RWB her spirit has never left my heart. All those years she was like a dancing "Mom" and my bus mate. She provided security, comfort , humour and always wise perspective ! She toiled without complaint, often going well beyond the call of duty . I shall never forget her tiny stitches repairing my costumes , each one a representative of the love and pride she had in her work, the costumes and us. On one of the tours to Japan , Hideo San a beloved stage hand on the Japanese crew remarked in a farewell speech that was so sorry , because he was already married ,he alas could not marry Emma ! So beloved was she!! I shall never forget her beautiful smile, her love of laughter, her great integrity in her work, her wisdom , but above all the very shiny twinkle in her entire being! She was my fairy Godmother and I am so grateful to have had her influence and love in my life. My thoughts and love I send to her entire family ! - Posted by: Evelyn Hart (Fairy goddaughter) on: Mar 24, 2016
