MARILYN PRISCILLA JOHNSTON
Date of Passing: Mar 19, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARILYN PRISCILLA JOHNSTON (EAGER) Surrounded by her loving family, Marilyn passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre, on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the age of 78. Marilyn was born at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg, the only child of Maisie Mary and Wilfred John Eager. Her early years were spent with her loving mother, while her father was away serving in Europe for six long years during the Second World War. At the tender age of eight years, shortly after her dad's return, her mother suddenly passed away leaving her to live for a period with her grandparents. Marilyn grew up in the West End and Norwood areas of the city, attending Laura Secord, Nelson MacIntyre and Tech Voc Schools. In 1948, her dad married Helen Elizabeth (Betty) Robinson, who soon became a second mom to Marilyn, guiding her through her formative years until her future husband, Calvin, came into her life on a blind date in November 1956. Marilyn and Cal were married on July 4, 1959. They were blessed with two sons and a daughter: Bradley Calvin, Stephen Michael and Barbara Jean (Froese). Marilyn is the proud grandmother of Trevor and Keith Johnston, and Becca and Cody Froese. She became a great-grandmother with the recent birth of Hadley Marilyn-Ann Froese. Marilyn's greatest pleasure in life was her family. Her favourite pastimes were golf and playing bridge with her many friends. She and neighbour Sylvia Hunter became life-long friends during the 10 years they were Girl Guide leaders together in the Crestview area. They helped numerous young women in the community on their journey to adulthood. She was always so thoughtful and caring of others. She loved birthdays and never missed sending friends and loved ones specially chosen greeting cards. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 0L3. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). I'd like the memory of me To be a happy one Of smiles when the day is done, I'd love to leave an echo Whispering softly down the ways Of happy times and laughing times And bright and sunny days, I'd like the tears of those who grieve To dry before the sun Of happy memories I leave behind When the day is done... Until we meet again. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
