FLORENCE OVERGAARD 1926 - 2016 We say farewell to our mother, Bestemor (grandmother), great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Even though Florence struggled with various health issues over the last couple of years, she never lost her sense of humour or willingness to sing a song at the drop of a hat. She still had a lovely voice with true clear tones, which was a pleasure for anyone to hear, and had a smile to light up a room. Florence was born and raised in Winnipeg, to Norwegian and Swedish parents. She was very proud of that heritage. She left high school early to take a secretarial course, working at Eaton's for several years. In 1950, she married Edmund and they subsequently had three children. Florence was mainly a stay-at-home mom, common in those days, but sometimes worked part-time as a secretary when the kids got older. She also kept busy with various church activities, Norwegian Club, Folklorama, singing, sewing and knitting. Florence was quite creative, and a good cook, but would never say so. She made up the best clues for our Easter Egg hunts as kids. She had a kind, loving and generous heart that was non-judgemental, believing in not saying anything unless you could say something good. Florence was predeceased by her husband in 1998 but leaves to mourn her children, Ingrid (Alan), Allan (Janice), Joanna (Keith); grandchildren, Ann-Marie, Kristina (Tyler), Erik (Samantha), Adam (Mandy), Peter (Sarah), Michael (Rebecca); great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Quinn and soon-to-be Everett. Florence is also survived by a sister, Elna, three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, cousins in Norway, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom's faith in God was an unbreakable thread throughout her life. We thank and praise God for giving us the best mother we could have wished for. The memorial service to take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at St. James Lutheran Church, 871 Cavalier Drive at Hamilton Avenue. Over the years mom donated to a variety of causes she believed in. Any donations in her memory may be made to one of your own choosing. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
