MARK KEITH FONTAINE June 1, 1962 - March 27, 2016 Suddenly on March 27, 2016, Mark Keith Fontaine passed away in Sagkeeng First Nation. He is survived by his daughter Jasmine Adams, grandson Emery Scott Adams, parents Stanford and Lillian Fontaine, siblings Brenda, Warren (Bonnie), Donna Bone, Earl (Shirley), Merv, Ron, Rhonda (Frank), Sheila and Tara (Isaac); uncles Maurice and Norman (Verdine); aunts Sandra (Dennis), Rose (Norbert), Agnes and Freda; his second family his cousins Kirk, Laurie, Tanya and Sheri Guimond; his close friends Claude and Cindy Guimond; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers Clayton and Leslie, grandparents Irene (Twoheart) and Joe Gus Fontaine, Helen (Swampy) and John Henry Fontaine, uncles Douglas, Ambrose, Paul, Richard, Howard, Frank, George and John A.; and aunts Lizette, Leona, Madeline, Josephine and Janette. Mark was raised in Sagkeeng First Nation and Oo-za-we-kwun (Rivers), Manitoba. He attended the Fort Alexander Residential/Day School, Oo-za-we-kwun Elementary Brooke School and Rivers Collegiate. He attended Brandon University and the University of Manitoba where he received his Bachelor of Education Degree. He taught at Sgt. Tommy Prince School in Brokenhead and Sagkeeng Junior High and Senior High Schools. Mark enjoyed working out, jogging, cycling, playing slo-pitch and fastball and spending time with family, friends, students and other educators. As a lifelong educator and mentor he always enjoyed teaching and coaching lacrosse and other team sports, telling jokes, sharing stories and encouraging children and youth to achieve personal goals. He had a special nickname for each of his nephews, nieces and other young family members. Mark took great pride in his personal grooming and was always smiling and friendly with many good friends. His friends have described him as "kind, good, genuine, happy go lucky, handsome, loving, caring, giving, gentle, wonderful, warm, understanding, a bright spot, a good friend, he had such a big heart, he wouldn't hurt a fly, a great role-model." He will be sadly missed by all his family, students and friends as we have many fond memories of his stories, adventures and travels. Wake Service will be held at the St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church Hall, Sagkeeng First Nation, MB, from Wednesday, March 30 to Saturday, April 2, 2016. Funeral Service will follow in the Church on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held in the St. Alexander Church Cemetery.
