ARTURO ALDO GAMBOZ May 1, 1923 - March 23, 2016 It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Arturo Aldo Gamboz on the morning of Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at the age of 92 years. Arturo will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Evelina; daughter Dina Dzbik; son-in-law Les Dzbik; granddaughter Katherine Dzbik; sister-in-law Marcella Gamboz; nephew John (Lorna) Gamboz; grandnieces, Julie (Marty) Flanagan and Katie Gamboz; as well as family and friends in Italy, Croatia and Argentina. On May 1, 1923, Arturo was born in Buie D'Istria, Italy to Maria and Giovanni Gamboz, one of three sons. He grew up with and later married the love of his life, Evelina, in 1951. The following year daughter Dina was born. Wanting to provide a better life for his family, Arturo decided to join his brother Valentino in Canada. The family immigrated to Winnipeg in 1959, leaving most of their worldly belongings behind. Arturo worked at Billinkoff Demolition for nine years before moving on to a less physically demanding job as a dietary aide at Winnipeg General Hospital, where he worked until his retirement. He enjoyed going to work there every day, always having a smile for everyone. He was a kind, gentle, soft-spoken man. Arturo enjoyed spending time in his large vegetable garden, making home-made wine and the most delicious prosciutti and sausages. He looked forward to playing Bocce on the weekends. Most Saturday nights were spent with family and friends. The men played cards in the kitchen, and the women and children socialized in the living room. Those evenings always ended with everyone joining in singing Italian folk songs, harmonizing perfectly. Upon his retirement, Arturo suffered a stroke and had many medical challenges since then. He bravely fought and survived three different cancers. His health deteriorated over the years and he was in constant pain. After his beloved granddaughter Katherine was born, Arturo forgot the pain whenever she was around. She was his pride and joy and gave him the will to live. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Dear Evelina , Dina, and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Arturo was a wonderful man, always smiling and so pleasant toward everyone. My husband Ray and I used to enjoy stopping by your place for a short visit and glass of vino when you lived on McDermot. Please accept my sincere sympathy and prayers.
