Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH MALCOLM GALSTON Kenneth Malcolm Galston passed away peacefully at Golden Links Lodge, on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at the age of 83. He is survived and sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife, Halina. Also cherishing his memory are his three sons, Bill (Mary Ann), David (Barbara), and Duane (Rose); stepdaughter Jane (Jerry); grandchildren, Joy, Robert, James, Miriam, Kevin, Karissa, Kyle; and step-grandsons Christopher, Andrew and Shawn and their families; including great-grandchildren Dominic, Neko, Henry, Sadie, Zahara, Leland, Zuba, Zakaiah, Qyran and Qalel. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Dorothy); nieces Yvonne and Brenda; nephew Blair, and Ken's first wife and mother of his sons, Betty. He will be missed by numerous cousins, especially Margaret, and many friends. Ken was predeceased by his parents Victoria (2000) and Malcolm (1950), and sister-in-law Dawn. Ken was born in Winnipeg on April 12, 1932 and as a youth expressed an aptitude for mathematics and music. He loved basketball and played for Harrow United Church in the old Church League. He spent many memorable summers growing up at Victoria and Hillside Beaches and eventually purchased land and developed his own cottage there. It was one place where he loved spending time with his family and friends. Ken was employed for many years at the University of Manitoba as an Assistant to the Vice-President, Administration, and later worked in Alberta as an Internal Auditor for Syncrude. He was a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and proudly served as the first Canadian on the Board of this international organization. Ken was an avid golfer and active member at Breezy Bend Golf and Country Club for many years. He enjoyed passing on his love of golf to his children. He remained interested in and supportive of Winnipeg sports teams, particularly the Blue Bombers, until late in his life. He had a kind disposition and as a loving father he will be remembered for the many ways he supported his children and grandchildren. He loved to travel on vacation, especially to Florida in the winters. Ken was able to use his knowledge and experiences in surprising ways, and even at the end of his life, he held onto a good sense of humour. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Golden Links Lodge, Poseidon Care Centre and the Victoria General Hospital for their care and compassion. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Harrow United Church (corner Mulvey and Harrow). In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ken's memory to Harrow United Church (955 Mulvey Ave., Winnipeg, MB., R3M 1G6) or to a charity of one's choice.
