After a brief illness, Bus passed away on April 2, 2016, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 94 years young. Bus is survived by his wife: Jean Elaine Hillyard, Son: Dr. Alex Hillyard (Judy Lloyd), Daughter: Janie Lysack, Grandchildren: Jason Hillyard (Catherine Lesawich), Scott Lysack (Nicole Smith), Wes Lysack (Ashley Kilback), Meghan Taylor (Matthew), Brodie Bazinet (Eric), Alexis Hillyard, Ainsley Hillyard. Great-grandchildren: Sabrina Bazinet, Maggie Lysack, Wes Jr. Lysack, Sophie Lysack, Samuel Bazinet, Jack Taylor. Brother-in-law: Hugh Hardy. Nephews: Len Hillyard, Rick Hardy, Brad Hardy, Scott Hardy. Niece: Brenda Dewar. Bus is predeceased by his Father: Leonard Hillyard, Mother: Florence Robbens Hillyard, Brother: Gordon Hillyard (Molly), Sister: Betty Joan Hardy, Niece: Barbara Anne Hillyard. At the age of 20 and two years into his university education, Bus volunteered to serve his country in the Second World War. He served as a Leftenant and later was field promoted to the rank of Captain in the Fifth Division of the Canadian Mobile Artillery (self propelled), 8th Army Field Regiment, 107 Battery, C Troop. Upon returning from the war in 1945 he finished his education, receiving his B.Comm from the University of Saskatchewan and married the love of his life: Jean Elaine Smith on May 10, 1947. Locating his young family to Regina, Bus worked as the plant manager for Intercontinental Packers. Bus then moved on to become a Life Underwriter for Monarch Life and later Manulife. As an underwriter Bus had a distinguished and long career, spanning 40 years until his retirement. In 1968 he received the Leslie W. Dunstall Provincial CLU award. Bus was very engaged in the Regina community, being a long standing member and past Grandmaster of the Masonic Order, Kinsman, K40 and past president of the Regina Exhibition Board Association. As an avid golfer Bus belonged to the Wascana Golf and Country Club, winning the men's club championship in 1974. Bus was a low handicapper, had four hole in ones' to his name and at the ages of 87, 88, 89 and 90he shot his age. Bus loved playing the piano and volunteered for community church groups, seniors organizations and extended care facilities. In retirement Bus actively took up the art of stained glass and many of his works hang proudly in the homes of his loved ones. Four years ago, Bus and Jean relocated to Winnipeg to be closer to family and Bus became an active member of the Lorette golf course. Bus was a loving husband, devoted family man, a strong contributor and developer of his many communities and celebrated as a role model by all who knew him. The Hillyard/Lysack family extends their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Matthews and her team of nurses, interns and attendants for the excellent care and compassion that Bus received on floor 6E of the St. Boniface Hospital. Bus was a lifelong member and contributor to the YMCA in Regina for over 60 years. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2016, Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers charitable donations may be made to any chapter of the YMCA. I am so sorry to have found out so late about Bus's passing. We had never met but I had met his sister Betty-Joan and husband Hugh some years ago when they visited the UK. I still remember the first time I met Bus and Jean shortly after they moved to Winnipeg. It was always a pleasure to see and chat with him . What impressed me most was how loving and caring they were to each other every time I saw them. He was a true gentleman with a kind heart, and it has been my pleasure to have been acquainted with him .
