IRENE MARY SVEINSON (nee HOLMES) June 20, 1934 - April 3, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Mary Sveinson on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Health Sciences Centre following a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Cliff, her children, Brad (Colleen), Tom, Cathy (Dave); her grandchildren, Aidan (Zach), Halley, Caila (Stephen), Eric, Kyle, Koen and Kelsey and her siblings Ted Holmes, Gladys Holmes, Eleanor (Ralph) Link and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Anne (Pawelko) and Edward Holmes, her sister Kay Brunner; brother-in-law Sigmar Sveinson; and her sister-in-law Marj Holmes. Irene was born in Winnipeg on June 20, 1934 but, shortly after marrying Cliff in 1960, she moved to Sandy Hook, Manitoba where she loved to garden and watch birds. Irene took great pride in her children and especially her seven grandchildren who she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Lakeview Resorts in Gimli, Manitoba at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you consider making a donation in Irene's name to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9 or to Assiniboine Park Conservancy, 55 Pavilion Crescent, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2N6. Dear Cliff and Family, Over 20 years ago...my late husband Dennis Johnson introduced me to his very dearest friends..Cliff and Irene Sveinson ...and their children. The fellowship whether at golf tournaments, family celebrations...dinners and parties ..whether in Winnipeg, Sandy Hook or Phoenix created many treasured memories. I so respected Irene for the genuine love and pride she showed to her family. Her heart had room for the love of nature, her beautiful garden...the birds and wild life and her friends. The Sveinson table always had room for one more...My prayers are with the family for strength at this difficult time. Rest in peace dear Irene.....Till we meet again.
