CECIL EDWARD DURNIN
Born: Apr 26, 1922
Date of Passing: Apr 04, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCECIL EDWARD DURNIN (CEC) On Monday, April 4, 2016 our Dad's big heart stopped beating just three weeks before his 94th birthday. Born in Deloraine, Manitoba on April 26, 1922, he was predeceased by his beautiful wife Sally, our mother, in 2011. They are together again, walking on a beach in Spain. He is survived by his proud family: Karen Richards (John Stevenson), Andrea Sewell (Doug), and Jeff Durnin (Karen Biliski); his grandchildren, Lisa Richards (David Mainprize), Jonathan Richards (Chloe Lawrence), Kelly Brown (David Newman), Rachel Smith (Scott), Emily Durnin (Steve Black), and Laura Durnin (Eleanor Albao), and of course, his great-grandchildren, Kai and Livia Newman, Anna Belle, Amelia, Eden and Lila Richards, Julia and Jamie Mainprize, and Liam, Willa, Hayden and Ryder Smith. Dad is also survived by two sisters in British Columbia, Jean Stephen (Bruce) and Elizabeth Law, who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bill and Vic. Dad was a proud veteran of the Second World War, a pilot who served in England and India. After the war he did two very important things; he started Millen-Durnin-Parrish Ltd. with two good friends and business partners, and married our Mom in 1948. We enjoyed a wonderful childhood on Beaverbend Crescent in St. James. One of the most important things in Dad's life though, was golf! He grew up on the old Polo Park Golf Course, and was a championship player all his life. The Manitoba Municipal Champion in 1954, he went on to play, and often win, right up until last September. He was a founding member of Breezy Bend Country Club, and there was no place on earth he would rather be. Our family is grateful to all the people who stood by Dad in this last difficult year; wonderful neighbours and friends, and especially his loving friend Annette Thiessen. At Dad's request we will hold a private family gathering at a later date. No flowers please, give with heart to a charity that is meaningful to you. My father was one of the founding members of Millen-Durnin-Parrish. Although I was raised in Calgary, I have very fond memories of the two Cecils from both the Durnin and Parrish families. My condolences on the passing of your father. Many blessings to your family. - Posted by: Marona (Millen) Wiebe (Daughter of Robert & Cecilia Millen) on: May 14, 2016

I started working with Millen Durnin Parrish in Sept 1969. I moved to Edmonton to start an office in Nov 1969. travelled to Chicago & Toronto for many trade shows with Cec over the years. We lost touch but fortunately for me exchanged e mails over the last couple of months & he seemed pleased to be going to Deer Lodge as he said there will be lots of folks around. Very sorry to hear of his passing. He was truly a fine gentlemen, honest & caring of others. - Posted by: Art Moore (worked for Millen Durnin Parrish) on: Apr 14, 2016

A lifetime friend since 1942 where we both served in the RCAF and kept in touch over the years and recently by e-mail. Cec always called me "Sparky" my war-time nickname. Over the years he sent me his family newsletters and we had a competition going about how may great grand-children we had. So far, I have been the winner by one. No one will ever replace this wonderful man. - Posted by: Alison MacKenzie (Long time friend) on: Apr 12, 2016

I was sad to learn of Cecil's passing. He was a great guy and and one of the better golfers in Manitoba. The Durnin and Swail families lived as one back in our younger days. Our parents were very close friends and all the kids had many fun years growing up. I have fond memories of Cece and extend my heartfelt thoughts to all of the Durnin family - Posted by: Jim Swail (Friend) on: Apr 09, 2016

My condolences to the whole family. Cec was a real gentleman and he would greet me with warmth whenever we met at Breezy Bend. When I was a brand new golfer (1981) I played a few holes with Cec and he was so kind and complimentary. I will miss seeing him! - Posted by: Hanne Hansen (Friend) on: Apr 07, 2016
