MARIE FRONA STEVENSON March 27, 1929 - March 30, 2016 It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Marie Frona Stevenson on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. She passed into the arms of the Lord three days after her 87th birthday. Left to forever remember her is her daughter, Dallas Carey; son, David Stevenson (Amanda); and grandchildren, Dana and Sean Carey, Devin, Alexa, and Dyllan Stevenson. She was predeceased by her husband and soul mate, Conrad (Bert) Stevenson, her parents, Cecil and Marie Gibson, and all of her brothers and sisters, Mamie, Alex, Don, Ombra, Jack, Cecil, and Dorothy. Frona was born March 27, 1929 in Eriksdale, Manitoba and spent her early years on the family farm and riding her horse Peggy. She eventually moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba and while working at Codvilles met her future husband and one true love Conrad (Bert) Stevenson. On December 9, 1955 she married Bert and started their family in 1958 with Dallas and followed up in 1967 with David. Frona worked for many years as a nurse's aide at Park Manor Personal Care Home and retired in 1986 at about the same time that Dad retired. She enjoyed her job and wasn't really ready to retire but wasn't about to let Dad stay at home while she worked. In April of 2006 Dad passed away, and Frona made the decision to move to Calgary. On Christmas Day 2006 her daughter-in-law Amanda flew to Winnipeg to bring her home and move in with her family here for her first Calgary Christmas. In 2009 for health reasons, she had to move to a long term care facility. While living there, she always looked forward to the visits (most importantly with the grandkids). She especially liked the pop-in visits when you walked in the room, she looked up, and you saw that glimmer in her eyes. Even in retirement she was always busy. If it wasn't her hobbies like collecting stamps, cooking, or crocheting, she had her sports. For all who knew Frona, knew how much she enjoyed sports, whether playing for many years, watching from the stands or in later years watching from her chair. You did not disparage her favourite team the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Many a season did she brave the subzero temperatures of Winnipeg to cheer on the team that could do no wrong in her eyes. She was such a fan that her son David often teased her that she was a groupie. Mom was the most loving, generous and kind person. She was the one that people came to talk to about their problems. She had that unique ability for making people feel better. In the last few years as her health deteriorated she showed the courage that was emblematic of the way she lived her life. She was more concerned about her family than herself. Mom, Grandma you are going to be missed more than you would have ever imagined. You touched many peoples' lives and made us better people. Mothers hold their children's hand for just a little while... and their hearts forever. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I spent several evenings at Aunty Frona and Uncle Berts when I worked in Selkirk. It was like being at home. Donna and I stopped to see Aunty in Calgary. It was great to see her even though she mistook me for my Dad. I will miss you - Posted by: Allan sveinson (Nephew) on: Apr 09, 2016

  • I(Ben) spent many of my summer holidays at Gram & Grampa Gibson's and my 2 aunts Frona & Dorothy came out quite often from Winnipeg. They made a long holiday away from home fun. I loved them both. Aunty Frona was always happy to see us when we visited her in her Transcona home and we always had coffee and pastries(fresh) God Bless you Aunty and all your Family - Posted by: Ben & Millie Sveinson (Nephew Ben) on: Apr 08, 2016
