Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORRAINE SERLIN (nee WINCURE) Lorraine Serlin passed away peacefully on November 27, 2015. Funeral services were held on November 29, 2015 at Etz Chayim synagogue followed by internment at Hebrew Sick Benefit cemetery. Lorraine was born in Winnipeg on July 28, 1940 to Dave and Fay Wincure, and was the oldest of three girls. She is survived by her life partner Ganesan Sekhar; her children, Jack Serlin (Debbie Litvack), Rena Serlin-Eiseman (Bradley Eiseman) and Joey Serlin (Lindsey Serlin), and their father Max Serlin. Her grandchildren, Ben, Leah, Rebecca, Ella, Emma, Leo, Sadie, and Liv (who was born only two weeks before her passing). Her sisters, Babs Zimberg (Ronnie) and Rhonda Wincure; sisters-in-law, Sarah Schwartz (Winnipeg) and Ginny Gilbert (Chicago, Ill.) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends (especially in the Winnipeg bridge community). Lorraine grew up in Winnipeg's north end and attended St. John's Tech. Soon after her marriage to Max in 1961 she relocated to the south end to raise her family. For Mom family always came first. Whether at home, our Baba and Zaida's for Shabbat, or summers at the cottage at Winnipeg Beach. Meal time was always family time time and Mom was usually the central player in the production. Of course she was allowed the rare occasion to herself. When Mom did find some time away from the family it was usually spent with her second love, bridge. Mom was always an avid bridge player. As children we often wondered what exactly it was are parents were up to when their conversation after a night out on the town usually involved an in depth analysis of why four diamonds was a bid when clearly three no trump was the obvious option. After a successful career of raising three somewhat self-sufficient children, it was her passion for bridge that led her not only to a new professional pursuit, but to a new relationship. The last 25 years of Mom's life were spent growing and nurturing a successful bridge club as well as a loving and caring partnership with Sekhar. Despite the onset of illness in the last few years, Mom managed to lead full and happy life encompassed by special times with her family and grandchildren in Winnipeg, visits to her son's and grandchildren in Vancouver and Toronto, and many memorable occasions with all of her close friends. We lost one of the best mothers, sisters, aunts, babas, partner and friend far too soon. We would like to thank the dedicated staff at Riverview Health Centre, and CancerCare Manitoba. In lieu of flowers a donation in her honour may be made to a charity of your choice.
