MARION JOAN COOPER (nee HALLIGAN) February 16, 1935 - April 7, 2016 It is with great sadness and fond loving memories that Marion's family announces her passing on April 7, 2016 at the age of 81 years young. Mom always wanted to go peacefully in her sleep and her wish came true. Our one in a million mom, gramma, big gram will be forever missed by her two sons - Tim (Doreen) and Terry (Enid), her grandchildren - Christy (Aaron), Scott (Val), Alison (Dan), Jessica (Andrew) and Kaitie (Jake), as well as her loving great-grandsons, Jacob and Dexter, who were her true loves that made her life worth living. Also mom's family - sister Doris Brennan, sister-in-law Carol, brothers Don (Karen), Ernie (Judy), Gary (Debra). As well, many nieces and nephews and the extended Cooper family. Mom was predeceased by her parents - Joseph and Kathleen Halligan, her loving husband Gary, brother George Halligan and brother-in-law Walter Brennan. Mom was born in Winnipeg, met the one and only true love in her life and married Dad (Sonny) on February 13, 1954. Marion worked at Great West Life throughout her career of 38 years, retiring as Vice President of Computer Services. After a faithful service at Great West Life, Mom's retirement was filled with family. Her time at the cottage with family and friends was treasured. She enjoyed her regular visits to Tuxedo Villa Senior Care Home. Her quiet time was filled with reading and solving a wealth of crossword puzzles. She was our family's pillar of strength. Mom was the happiest when her great grandsons were around and would do anything for them - kick a ball or get down on the floor. She was so looking forward to hearing Dexter say his first set of words. Mom took on the tradition from Gram Halligan and loved to have all her brothers and sister and their families for Christmas Eve. Mom showed us what true strength was when she fought her battle with lung cancer and WON! Thanks to CancerCare Manitoba and the many Health Science Centre services. The family would like to express special thanks to the City of Winnipeg emergency services for their prompt service and kindness to us on her day of passing. In lieu of flowers, if so desire, donations may be made in Mom's Memory to CancerCare Manitoba, Central Speech and Hearing Clinic or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and a service in celebration of Mom's life will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue.
