Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERIC WILLIAM GILBART Passed away on March 23, 2016 at the age of 92 years. Flt. Lt. Gil' was a pilot in the RAF/RCAF during the Second World War and later a flight instructor in Gimli, Manitoba. In Winnipeg, throughout the 60s and 70s, Eric worked at Supercrete and the Manitoba Masonry Council. In 1975, Eric and Doreen moved to Victoria to run the Potter's Wheel Gallery. Eric had a love for adventure and tried all kinds of sports and activities. At age 56, with a new love for sailing, he set sail south to Mexico. After several years, he returned to the Island to continue to live his carefree lifestyle. Eric had an amazing connection with nature and animals. No matter where he went, he developed a special bond with any animal he spent time with. Some creatures were wild such as "Archie, the seagull" and many were domestic pets with friends and family. All family dogs "opened parcels" and enthusiastically participated in any event that included Grandpa. He leaves to mourn his family: Doreen, Lauren, Mark (Bonny), Rhonda (John), Eylin (Bob) and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren along with surviving brothers Roy (June) and Don (Del) both in Selkirk, Manitoba. Eric also leaves behind several dear friends: Mo, Barb and Penny along with many others from his sailing and campground days. A donation and plaque in his memory will be made at the BC Aviation Museum, one of his favorite haunts. Memorial donations may be made to the BC Aviation Museum or the SPCA.
