Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN MATHESON June 14, 1947 - April 7, 2016 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Peter Matheson, on April 7, 2016. John is survived by his loving wife Katie; sons, Ian and Kyle; and daughter Emily. John was predeceased by his mother Dorothy, father Farquhar, sister Jann and nephew Scotty. John lived his entire life in Winnipeg, growing up in the North End. He attended West Kildonan Collegiate and later the U. of M. He always said it was love at first sight, when he met Katie playing bridge in the Common Room at St. John's College. John's working career began with Stern Trucks, where he moved up quickly from RV sales to New Truck Sales Manager. In the late 1970s, he was lured from the trucking industry to the marine industry, where he found his passion. He started working for Genmar Boats as a sales representative, selling Lund and Silverline boats, later moving into the production side of the business. After a brief stint in retail with Mr. B's, he took a position as Production Manager of Invader Boats, where he thrived for many years. Then, when the opportunity arose, John (with a couple partners) bought the company and started Odyssea Leisure Products. They manufactured Invader and Silverline fibreglass boats in Winnipeg until he retired. John put his all into every job / project which he undertook or was involved in. He liked to say: "if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing right". In his down time, he spent many happy years boating on the Red River and enjoying cottage life at Minaki with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching/attending football games and NASCAR races. He had a life-long love of music. We have fond recollections of the many car rides to Minaki, with his favourite songs repeated over and over while everyone sang along. It didn't end there. Upon arrival, he continued to rock the cabin with non-stop tunes and golden oldies. John's infectious laughter and enthusiasm will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Please join us at the St. Boniface Golf Club on Monday, April 18th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a celebration of John's life. Dress code will be casual. John was a great fan of golf shirts for any occasion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to the MS Society of Manitoba or the charity of your choice.
