JOHN KONECHNY It is with immense sadness and heartbreak that we announce the death of our devoted husband, father, brother and uncle, John, on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Victoria General Hospital, surrounded by family. Left to mourn John are his wife Marta; his daughter Charlene; sister Phyllis; brother-in-law Peter; nephews, Bradley (Sue) and Kevin, and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Ernestina Konechny. On January 22, 1937, John was born in Slovakia and his family immigrated to Canada to start the family farm in Brunkild, Manitoba. As a small child, John would anxiously await spring so he could sit on the tractor and pretend he was working on the field. He eventually settled in Oak Bluff and continued to farm and reside until his retirement. John loved farming where he spent most of his life, doing the work that gave him many happy days. He enjoyed having his nephews help on the farm, especially his "Little Bossa" and making snow hills for his daughter. After retiring from farming he liked spending his time watching curling, baseball and the Toronto Maple Leafs. John was known for his outgoing nature, kind heart, willingness to help others and of course to make you laugh; he always had a twinkle in his eye when he wanted to say a joke. Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Kevin Bettens, presiding. A special thank you to the 4th floor North nurses at the Victoria General Hospital for their care and compassion in making sure he was always comfortable, and to Dr. Lowden.
