She was predeceased by her husband, Bill, on November 25, 2015 after over 75 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Jack and Dorothy Warnick; her in-laws, Hy and Kay Shell, Pauline and Sam Zinman, and Ben Shell. She is survived by her children, Al Shell, Marli Lerner (David) and Lynn Minuk (Gary Fitzgerald); as well as her brother and sister-in-law Bill and Ann Warnick; and sister-in-law Cal Shell. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Cori Lerner, Jana Wilson (Jason), Adam Lerner, Kim Bergman (Chris), Kevin Minuk (Simmie), Jordan and Delon Shell. She also leaves six great-grandchildren who adored her, Sadie and Asher Rohne, Kyler and Krewyn Bergman, Elora Lerner, and Madison Wilson. Ruth was born September 3, 1918. She grew up on Jarvis Ave. in Winnipeg and met Bill in her early teens. They were married on July 7, 1940. Ruth spent her adult life as a very accomplished homemaker. She excelled in the kitchen with her cooking and baking and when having company, she was the ultimate hostess. One of her favourite pastimes was playing Mah Jong with her girlfriends. Many happy times were spent with her family at the cottage in Gimli. She enjoyed being with all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as they were all very happy to be with her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services were held Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Ruth's grandchildren acted as her pallbearers. The family would like to thank the staff of the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence, as well as the home-care workers, who were all so very kind to our Mom. A special thank you also goes to Alga Asgodom, who took especially good care of her. Should you desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the CMHR, the Ruth and Bill Shell Fund or the Ruth Shell Women's Endowment Memorial Fund both at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.
