JACOB KULLMAN September 17, 1927 - April 14, 2016 Surrounded by his loving family, Jacob Kullman (Jack) passed away peacefully at Concordia Place Personal Care Home on April 14th, 2016. Jack was born in Melville, Saskatchewan on September 17th, 1927. He was the eldest of three children born to Valentin and Sophie Kullman (nee Schuck). His early years were spent in rural Saskatchewan. A few years after his father's untimely death Jack moved to Winnipeg at the age of 16 in search of a job to help support his mother and two sisters Elizabeth and Martha. He began his career with CP Rail as a wood machinist at Weston Shops. He held various positions over the 42 years that he was employed at the railway retiring as an Assistant Shop Foreman in 1986. Jack met the love of his life, June (nee Jorundson) at a dance in Winnipeg Beach. They were married on July 16th, 1955 at Young United Church. He designed and built the family home where they spent nearly 60 years together. They had four children Nancy, Lorna, Jeff and Heather. Family was very important to him. You would often see June and him at his children's and grandchildren's band concerts, piano recitals and sporting events. Summer vacations were spent travelling throughout southern Manitoba, Ontario and in later years the west coast. After the children left home Jack and June were able to spend more time together. They enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as going for walks, going out for meals and playing golf together. Faith was also a very important part of Jack's life. He was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church serving as an usher, elder and Sunday school superintendent. It was his strong faith in God that would carry him throughout his life and later in his struggle with cancer. As a young man Jack enjoyed playing hockey, roller hockey and pool. Later on, he loved spending time in his garden growing a variety of vegetables. After his retirement he spent many hours at Transcona Golf Course with his buddies Roland, Bill and Doug. They enjoyed good natured camaraderie as well as a love of the game. Jack is survived by his wife, June; his sister Elizabeth Hilderman (Melvin); his children, Nancy (Tolv), Lorna (Tim), Jeff, and Heather (James); his grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda, Daniel, Andrew, Shannon, Ryan, Melanie, Mikaela and Madeline as well as his great-grandchildren Ethan, Carson, Brody, Damien and Lucy. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister, Martha (Sanborn), brother-in-law Brian Sanborn and grandson Brandon Zulkoski. Sincere thanks to Dr. David Martin, the staff of Concordia Hospital and Concordia Place for their support, care and compassion during his illness. A funeral service for Jack will be held on Wednesday, April 20th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Avenue. Reverend Dr. Harald Schoubye will officiate the service. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Holy Cross Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
