GEORGE JOSEPH WAITE January 29, 1929 - April 17, 2016 On Sunday, April 17, 2016 after 87 wonderful years, George passed away at the Grace General Hospital. George will be terribly missed and lovingly remembered by his dedicated wife Terry; his five daughters, Christina (Dave), Kathleen, Sandra (Rob), Sonora (Richard) and Elizabeth (Paul); son George (Liana); eight grandchildren and many long-time friends. On January 29, 1929, George was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1952 at age 23. He became an officer and Navigator. George flew the CF 101 with the 409 squadron, in Comox, BC and the CF 100 with the 423 squadron in St. Hubert, QC. He later flew the Hercules and was the lead Navigator for this aircraft, with the 435 squadron in Edmonton, AB. During his career, George achieved a Bachelor of Arts Degree and retired as a Major in Winnipeg, MB after 32 years of service. Terry and George met in the Military when they were performing together in a production called "This Hours Follies". George was a singer and Terry a dancer. The two shared a short courtship that ended in 60 years of marriage. Their marriage was full of love, friendship and dedication. Terry was by his side, caring for him each passing day as he declined from dementia. George played many sports and kept active throughout his life. He enjoyed swimming, tennis, golf, and running (he completed two marathons). George loved to travel and saw much of the world both as an officer in the military and then when he retired. He loved music and singing. He had a beautiful voice and although his dementia took many parts of him before he passed, his love for music remained til the end. George was a loving husband, a good father and a loyal friend. He was not only an officer but he was a great gentleman! He will be dearly missed. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all those who reached out and offered their condolences during this sad time. They will have a private gathering in memory of George.
