MACHALENA HULKEWYCZ Mom passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2016, at Holy Family Nursing Home, at the age of 91. Mom was born December 19, 1924 in Western Ukraine. Mom and young son Walter immigrated to Canada in 1942, one year after Dad in 1941. Lena was lastly employed at Centennial Concert Hall in custodian services until retiring in 1989. Mom loved her garden and flowers in her yard. She enjoyed many happy hours in her garden and tending to it. She loved sitting and visiting with family in her backyard. She loved to cook her favourite Ukrainian dishes for family. Left to cherish Mom's memories are her son Walter (Judy), grandchildren Colleen and Sharon (Tero), great-grandchildren Erik and Evan; daughter Angela (Douglas) and grandchildren Mark and Michele. Mom was predeceased by husband Jaroslaw in 2005, and by her baby daughter Laurisa in 1955. As per Mom's wishes a private family funeral and interment was held on Friday, April 22, 2016. Thanks to Lee Barringer for his kind words and very comforting service. The family would like to thank the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home, St. Johns 2-B North Ward, for all their love and care for Mom all these years with Alzheimers and cancer. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Machalena Hulkewycz may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Rest in Peace Mom Gone but not forgotten
