BRYAN ALBERT WEBSTER April 7, 1937 - April 24, 2016 Bryan passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Sunset Lodge in Victoria, BC. Bryan is survived by his wife Dale; daughter Sabrina (Thomas); grandchildren, Cassia and Cayden; step-son Stephen Wilson (Tanis); granddaughters, Jenna and Kayla; stepson Scott Wilson (Rie); grandsons, Naoki and Kota; cousins, Cathy Rutherford, John Peterson, Paul Peterson; as well as many friends. Bryan was the much loved son of Bert and Myrtle (Shuttleworth) Webster. Bryan grew up in the small railroad town of Transcona, Manitoba (now part of Winnipeg) where his father worked in the CNR shops, the largest employer in town. He often joked that he had to behave himself at school because his two maiden aunts were teachers there. It was a great time and place to be a kid and Bryan had many stories that he shared. In later years Bryan went on to achieve the designations of both Registered Industrial Accountant and Certified General Accountant. He met his wife Dale, who was the administrator of the CGA Association when he was studying for his designation, and they later married in 1975. For many years Bryan was employed by Reimer Express Lines, a large motor freight company based in Winnipeg, as Director of Maintenance and later VP of Finance. After taking an early retirement from the corporate world, Bryan became a consultant to the industry for several years before retiring to Comox, BC in 1990 where he enjoyed golf, curling and the warm winters of the west coast. Bryan and Dale met many people through the Newcomers Club and enjoyed their evenings socializing with a great group of friends. Bryan also kept himself busy advocating to save the E&N Railway from ceasing operations on Vancouver Island. Bryan was also a dedicated member of the Masons (Northern Light Lodge) as well as the Shriners (Khartum Temple) in Winnipeg and later the Comox Valley Shriners. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sunset Lodge for the warm and caring support they provided Bryan over the last year. As per Bryan's wishes he will be cremated and will be laid to rest with his parents at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Winnipeg at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Bryan's name to Salvation Army Sunset Lodge, 952 Arm Street, Victoria, V9A 4G7.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My parents were friends of Bryan's many years ago in Thompson, Manitoba. Bryan offered me my first job at Reimers. Once our families relocated to Winnipeg my parents stayed connected with Bryan for many years. Bryan was always kind to me and to my brothers. My beloved Mom loved to dance with him at the Saergents Mess functions. We all sadly lost touch when he and Dale moved away. We offer our sincere condolences to Dale and to all of Bryan's family. • Bryan came into my life when I was 5 years old when he married my mother Dale. He enriched our lives in so many ways. He taught me how to make a mean omelette, that a man does house work, a macho man treats women and others with respect not like the fools I saw on television, he attended my school and sporting events, took us to football and hockey games, enjoyed watching me stand up to a bully, congratulated me on excellent choices of friends and he filtered out a few bad apples, he encouraged me to always do my best and gave me books that lit a fire in my belly. We enjoyed watching M.A.S.H on television together, driving scenic neighborhoods and we spent many evenings listening to classical music with a fire burning in the fire place. Bryan was very passionate in his involvement with the Shriners and the work they did in the community and trying to save the E&N Railway on Vancouver Island. I'm so grateful to have had him in my life. Rest in peace Dad, we love you and THANK YOU for EVERYTHING! - Posted by: Scott (Step-son) on: May 01, 2016

  • I first met Bryan in 1966 when I went to work for Reimer Express in Winnipeg. The friendship grew over the years and we spent many great & fun times together. Bryan was both a great friend and mentor, and I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with Dale and all the family. RIP good friend - Posted by: Jack Tomkins (Friend) on: Apr 30, 2016

  • Bryan has been my step-father for over 40 years and although I could write about many positive aspects about him I want to convey two things. First, Bryan had an incredible sense of loyalty to his friends. I will no doubt miss some names which I apologize for, and I don't know all of the connections. Bryan spent many years working at Reimer Express Lines and like most of us he would have his good days and his bad days - some days he'd come home and have one rum and Coke and other days he'd come home and NEED several! One thing was constant though - he had a close circle of friends that he always cherished and constantly mentioned throughout the years even in recent conversations. Names like Mullan, Moon, Tomkins, Haddock, Shostak, and Dorinda permeated his conversations throughout the years and he always had a smile on his face when he talked about the good times with the old gang from Reimers. The second thing I want to mention was Bryan's sense of heritage. Bryan was passionate about many things over the years including the Blue Bombers, the Masons and Shriners, and in later years advocating for the E&N Railway. But Bryan's strongest passion was researching his Webster/Shuttleworth heritage and he kept Mom busy typing up every lineage fact that he could find. Related to his heritage he absolutely loved telling everybody that he heralded from small, yet thriving railway town of Transcona, Manitoba (as well as his Minnedosa roots).
