RUTH HELEN PACKER Peacefully on April 19, 2016 Ruth passed away at the age of 88 in Whittier, California. She leaves behind to mourn nephew Michael Packer (Karen), great-nephews Robert and Steven, and great-niece Michelle, all of Winnipeg, MB and many cousins throughout Canada, U.S. and England. Also left to mourn are special friends Linda and Jim Knoles, who always made sure Ruth's needs were taken care of. Ruth was predeceased by her parents Robert Henry and Edith May Packer (Beadle), brother Kenneth Packer and sister-in-law Margaret. Ruth was born on July 23, 1927 in Fort Garry, MB where she spent her early years. In 1950 Ruth and her parents relocated to Whittier, California, partly due to her dad's health. She looked after her parents until her dad passed in 1961 and her mum passed in 1985. Ruth began her employment with AT&T/Bell Telephone as an operator in the early 1950s and worked her way up to management. She enjoyed her career until her retirement in the 1990s. Being adventurous and independent, Ruth loved to travel when she could. She took her mum to England where they enjoyed searching family records and meeting new relatives. Ruth ventured abroad to other destinations as well. Thank you to Whittier Hospital, Kindred Transitional Care and to the Home Care Providers, especially Jennifer who developed a special bond with Ruth. Interment has taken place at Park Lawn Cemetery in California, where Ruth has been laid to rest beside her mum and dad. A memorial service will follow at a later date.

  • I never met Ruth, but I did met Ken a few times at family funerals. Apparently we were related and I did intend to follow things up but I guess I have run out of time. My Grandmother was Cora O'Kelly nee Beadle). My grandmother and Edith May Packer must have been related but I do not know how as my grandmother was quite closed mouth about things but I do wish I know more. - Posted by: Bridget McCormick (A cousin of some form I believe) on: May 03, 2016
