Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJANET LEE CHRISTENSEN Surrounded by her children, on Friday, April 29, 2016, at St. Joseph's Hospice, Janet Christensen passed away peacefully, at the age of 70. Predeceased by her beloved husband Dave Christensen, of 44 years. Loving mother of Ed (Holly) Christensen, Kevin (Heidi) Christensen and Jennifer (Murray) Woolvett. Beloved daughter of Eileen and Ed Stanton. Cherished sister of Jo (Dave) Kellendonk, Sue (Rod) Thorleifson and Sandy (Gil) Vermette. Treasured grandmother of five grandchildren. Lovingly remembered by 14 nieces and nephews. Jan was born and raised in Winnipeg, graduating from the University of Manitoba in 1969. She graduated from Toronto Teachers College the following year. Jan's teaching career spanned over 40 years, enriching the lives of many students. She was actively involved in the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario, and served as President of Lambton-Kent Occasional Teachers Local for many years. Jan was an avid artist and fantastic home cook, who loved working with her hands, including beading, weaving, gardening and pottery. She was a long term resident of Point Edward. She volunteered with many organizations and was recognized as volunteer of the year by United Way. Jan was very active within St. Paul's Anglican Church. She was happiest surrounded by family, at home or at the cottage. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 210 Michigan Ave., Point Edward, on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. After the service, there will be a celebration of Jan's life at the church. The family asks that no black or dark clothes be worn; instead, bright colours are encouraged. As per family request, in lieu of flowers, bereavement cards and donations may be made to the St. Joseph's Hospice in Sarnia.
