PAUL EUGENE GUTNICK In memory of Paul Gutnick It is with much sadness to announce the passing of Paul Eugene Gutnick, who died peacefully in his sleep at what he would have said was the young age of 87. Although we are saddened by the loss of a loved family member, we celebrate the life of an accomplished man, husband and father. In the Jewish faith, it's often said that people never leave, as long as you remember them. Paul leaves a long history of wonderful memories as he joins his wife Terry Evelyn Gutnick and his two brothers Nelson and Kenny in the heavens above. Paul was born in Winnipeg, Canada and was an active member in the community throughout his life. He was a regular member of the congregation Chavurat Tefila and Beth Israel, and the Rosh Pina in early years where his two sons Bernard and Raymond became bar mitzvah. He pursued a career in financial accounting, and held positions for Alcan Aluminum and General Distributors - who introduced Sony to Canada. His entrepreneurial spirits lead to opening retail outlets in the Garden City Shopping, in Garden City where he lived for many years. It's no surprise his two sons followed in his footsteps in careers in engineering and marketing, and continue to leverage his teachings to this very day and in the future. We're pleased he was able to share in his grandsons Michael and Cary Gutnick's bar mitzvahs held in California. Paul gave back to the community having volunteered for the Canadian Armed Services with an honourable discharge as an officer having earned the rank of Captain, while continuing to teach as a Grand Master instructor for target shooting. He is recognized in the Jewish Athletes of Canada book, which highlights his participation in the global competitions in Bisley, England. Services will be held on Monday, 11:00 a.m. at the Hebrew Sick Memorial Cemetery on McPhillips just north of the Garden City Shopping Center, where he be laid to rest next to his wife and loving mother, Terry Evelyn Gutnick. No flowers are requested. For the exact time, please call Bernard Gutnick at (408) 569-5897. Donations may be made to any charitable organization that helps veterans in need, including the www.vetscanada.org Paul would have enjoyed that very much. Salut!

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I met Paul at General Distributors in 1965, my first job out of school. He was the most pleasant person, always helping, never complaining, and always smiling. He helped me settle in to the routine at General Distributors as I was a young and inexperienced worker in the Accounting Office. We called him Captain Paul, and he certainly got a laugh out of that. It is true, some people you meet in your life, you never forget, and Paul was certainly one of them. My condolences to Pauls's family, may your wonderful memories help you through this difficult time. - Posted by: Donna Smith (Worked with Paul at General Distributors) on: May 03, 2016
