GEORGE RAYMOND JACK August 15, 1940 - May 1, 2016 After a brief, brave battle with cancer; George Raymond Jack of Steinbach, MB; originally of Monominto, MB; has passed away. George is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nadine; daughter Deborah (Larry); son George Jr (Shannon); son Harry; grandchildren Tristan, Jonathan, Demmisha (JP), Dylaynna, Adrian, Samantha; "adopted" grandson Jay; and great-granddaughter Scarlett. He is also survived by one sister, one brother and his wife, two sisters-in-law and their husbands, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, his mother, his father-in-law, his mother-in-law, and three sisters. Growing up on the family farm until the age of 17, he then served in the Canadian military for six years, receiving his Peacekeeping Medal in 2003. A series of jobs followed after that, until he started at the CNR where he worked for 27 years, before retiring. He also returned to the family farm, while working at the CN, before they moved to Steinbach in 2011. George was known for being a kind man, with a soft-spot for children and animals. He loved to read, watch documentaries, go for walks, and tell a good story. He enjoyed good food, and sharing it with family and friends. Many people have expressed to us, how he was a father-figure to them, and he had many children adopt him as "grandpa" over the years. Thanks go out to Dr. N. Finlayson, and the staff on the fifth floor, unit 4 of Seven Oaks Hospital; and to Dr. G. Lemoine, Dr. P. Demoissac, and the staff at Ste. Anne Hospital for all of your help, support, and care of George, in his final days. As per his wishes, there will be no public funeral service. A private, immediate family only, memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's name to the Ste. Anne Hospital Foundation, or to cancer research.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Nadine and family, I just heard today the very sad and shocking news of George's passing. George was a kind man who gave of himself to others including myself. He always offered the traditional farm hospitality and I enjoyed many a meal at the Jack table. I can still hear him whenever I'd come by "come on in! Come on in!" He was always ready to help a friend or offer advice if asked. I also observed the way he faced adversity with the stiff upper lipped stoicism of his English forebears. I always admired that in him. I have not forgot him over the years and I never will. He will be missed. With deepest sympathy,, Barry Neil - Posted by: Barry Neil (Friend and coworker) on: Jul 09, 2016

  • Nadine and family. I just heard about George passing away, I am very saddened and offer all of you my deepest condolences. George will be missed greatly, I have so many fond memories of him. The thought that comes to mind is that no doubt somewhere up there George and Barry Kruger together are dismantling some obsolete piece of farm equipment for salvage. Thinking of you.
