PETER (PETE) KALETA In peace, Peter passed away on April 30, 2016 at the age of 93. He was greatly loved by his family and his memory will always be cherished. Pete will be truly missed by Barbara, his wife of 39 years who has felt totally blessed by his deep love over the years. Lovingly remembered by his sister Jean Nixon; sister-in-law Terry Kaleta; nieces and nephews, Dennis Kaleta, Janis Paraluch (Dave), Jocelyn O'Toole (Tom), Gloria Wolff (Don), Wilf Slobik (Mae), Nancy Slobik, Paul Kaleta (Gail), Ray Marko (Lynne); and great-nieces and nephews. Pete was predeceased by his siblings, Steve, Mary, Mildred, Pearl, Lillian, and Roman his beloved brother. Also left to cherish Pete's memory are step-daughter Wendy Duncan (David), stepson Peter Bruckshaw (Allison) and grandchildren. Pete was born in Eastdale, MB, and raised in Anola where he worked on the family farm. At 16 years old he left and found his life's work in construction, eventually becoming a partner in HarKal Construction. Pete had a gift for the industry and together with his crew, put up buildings such as Steinbach Hospital, St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lockhart Hall (U of W) and many others, as well as over 24 schools in Winnipeg and Manitoba. Pete loved fun, grew the best vegetables, was a Bombers' fan, curled, and loved to dance. For the last three years Peter has resided in Misericordia Place where he struggled valiantly with Parkinson's. To all those who cared for him, our heartfelt thanks. A Remembrance Service will be held on Monday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). If friends so desire, a donation can be made to the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba, 7-414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2J 1P2. Rest now in your Father's Garden. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My most sincere apologies to all of my relatives who without a doubt, were truly blessed to have had my Uncle in their daily lives. It is with much regret and sorrow that I never maintained a close relationship with my Uncle and the rest of you. I only have a few memories of Uncle Pete when mum and I (Mary) went for a family reunion in Sifton. As I shall cherish them all the more. Good bye Uncle Petr...and rest now in HIS bosom... - Posted by: David Arnold (Nephew) on: Dec 08, 2020

  • I got to know, and work with, Peter as a client of HarKal Construction and he was always a joy and a delight to work with. Peter and his partner defined the best of honourable business dealings and combined this with great skill and innovative ideas. Thank you Peter for being such a great role model to my then young-man status. - Posted by: Sheldon Bowles (Business Associate) on: May 07, 2016
