ROSE MASNIUK (nee Kowalchuk) December 28, 1923 April 29, 2016 With deep sadness the family of Rose Masniuk announce her peaceful passing at Hillcrest Personal Care Home in Calgary. Born in Winnipeg to Peter and Pauline Kowalchuk, she was the youngest of six children. Rose was predeceased by husband Peter, sisters Jean, Anne, Marie and brothers Steve and Bill . Born and raised in Winnipeg, she met and married Peter Masniuk in 1947. Her entire married life she remained a devoted wife and loving mother of four children. She supported Peter through his entire career with CN Rail, as an MLA for Fisher, an MP for Portage, a Manitoba Housing Official, and as a reeve. They lived in Narcisse, Hilton, Victoria Beach, Hodgson, and Inwood. Rose was President of the Hodgson Legion Ladies' Auxillary and President of Inwood WI. They moved to Inwood in 1960, and Rose moved to Calgary in 2000. The past eight years she resided in Hillcrest Personal Care Home in Calgary. Rose's passion was cooking and making people feel welcome in her home. No one was allowed to visit without being fed, whether you were hungry or not. She also had a real talent for gardening. In Victoria Beach for four consecutive years she won Most Beautiful Yard for her flowers. Rose is survived by her four children, Gail (Al) Moran of Oliver, B.C., Judy (Bill) Kitching of Stonewall, Raymond (Nancy) of Kelowna, B.C. and Bill (Wanda) of Calgary, plus eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and as per her wishes, there is no funeral.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Sincere sympathy is extended to Gail, Judy, Raymond and Bill, the family of Rose Masniuk. Our families have known each other for the forty years that Rose had lived in Inwood. She was a great friend and neighbor and was a great worker for any of the clubs in town. She was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed and she will always be remembered - Posted by: Marion Strick (friend) on: May 07, 2016
