LLOYD LOVELL It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Lloyd Lovell, who passed away in Edmonton, AB at the age of 89. Formerly of St. Andrews, MB, Lloyd's memory will be cherished by Marjorie, his devoted wife of 65 years; children Dailaan (Jayeson) Shaffer, Shaun (Mildred) Lovell and Cathy Loudon; grandchildren Marta, Joshua, Marusia, Matthew, Sara, Greg, Heather, and Rebecca; great-grandchildren Kody and soon-to-be-born Baby Synenko; as well as nieces and nephews. Lloyd was predeceased by his son Richard, and niece Linda Robinson. Lloyd was born and raised in Winnipeg, where he met and married Marjorie. His career encompassed general insurance and public relations. A creative thinker, Lloyd was quick to adopt new technology, researching and building a passive solar home. His recent interests were in electric cars and 3D printing. Grandson Joshua said it best when he described Lloyd as one of the best role models you could have: kind, caring, reliable, observant, a social democrat, and an environmentalist. A celebration of Lloyd's life will be held on Thursday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Sherwood Park Alliance Church, 1011 Clover Bar Rd., Sherwood Park, AB. Memorial donations in Lloyd's honour can be made to the charity of your choice. An online book of memories can be found at www.serenity.ca

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Marjorie I always used to see you at the Wellness and we had some good chats. The last time I saw you was last spring I believe and then it seemed like you just disappeared. I was always curious as to what happened since you were a regular at the gym and I missed chatting with you. Anyway I recently found out that your husband passed away and I wanted to offer my deepest condolences. I hope all is well with you If you are interested in touching base e-mail me at jwinnicky100@yahoo.ca Again I hope all is well and that I get a reply from you - Posted by: Judy (Acquaintance) on: Jan 18, 2017

  • Heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Royal Alexandra Hospital (Robbins Pavilion, Unit 53, Unit 18), 2 North staff in Capital Care Norwood, and those in 4D at Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital for the care you extended to my Dad during the last year of his life. You are all wonderful, caring people and the work you do is incredibly important. - Posted by: Shaun Lovell () on: May 09, 2016

  • My Dad, Lloyd, was born in Winnipeg in early 1927, the only child of Cecil & Ida Lovell. He grew up on Green Ave. in East Kildonan except for his first year of elementary school, which he took in Weslaco, Texas. In his early 20's, he met Marjorie Phillips after her father built a house in East Kildonan. The couple experienced the flood of 1950 (the house on Green Ave. was flooded) and married in the Spring of 1951. After having 2 children (Dailaan and Richard) they moved northward to Swan River, MB in 1957. Twins Cathy & Shaun (myself) were born in Swan River in 1959. Lloyd was an insurance broker with Pioneer Insurance Agency and later sold investments for Investors Syndicate. In 1972, Lloyd moved his family to Calgary, (Minus Dailaan, who had married by then) and did Public Relations for the Canadian Cancer Society. After leaving the Cancer Society, he built 2 houses (not at the same time), developed a course on passive solar home construction and taught it for several semesters at the University of Calgary, and then attended U of C, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1987 at 60 years of age. When Marjorie's career as a registrar of the Federal Court of Canada offered a position in Winnipeg in 1990, Lloyd & Marj returned to their home town as empty-nesters and settled on the outskirts of Selkirk (technically in the RM of St. Andrews). They remained there after Marj's retirement and maintained a number of volunteer positions such as Meals on Wheels, serving hot breakfast to inner city elementary students and working at a church food pantry. As always, they were very active in their church and with the NDP party of Manitoba. In the summer of 2015, Lloyd & Marjorie moved to Edmonton to be close to 2 of their children ("the twins"). Deteriorating health put Lloyd in hospital care for an extended time and Marj was by his side every day. Thankfully, he was able to live together with her again for a short time before his passing. - Posted by: Shaun Lovell (Son) on: May 07, 2016
