EDITH CLAIRE MARTIN Peacefully, at Heritage Lodge Care Home, on May 6, 2016, Edith (Edie) passed away, at the age of 87. She is survived by daughter Linda (Avery), son Carl (Gayle), grandsons: Cory (Toni), Drew (Sarah) and Jacob. Great-grandchildren: Austin, Joe, Josh and Kristin. Edie was predeceased by husband Ernest in 2010, one sister and five brothers. Born in Calgary, Alberta, to parents, Raoul and Alice, she grew up very closely with her six siblings. She moved back to Winnipeg as a young girl. When she met and married Ernie, they moved to the Windsor Park area until Ernie's job transfer to Calgary, where they lived for 12 years before returning back to Winnipeg once again. Edie was a loving wife, mother and homemaker, and enjoyed regular family vacations to Florida as the children grew up. Her gregarious spirit and outgoing personality were evident to everyone who met her. She loved spending time with friends, family and acquaintances, and especially her grandchildren who brought her so much joy. Once retired, they lived at Silver View Estates for several years and volunteered and participated in various social events there. Unfortunately, her health declined considerably in the last two years and Alzheimer's began to slowly rob her of her warm personality and well-being. We would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Riverwood Square, as well as Heritage Lodge. We are so grateful for all of the respect and care she received while living at both residences in her final years. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at Riverwood Square. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or Red Cross (for victims of Fort McMurray), if desired.
